Autumn Maple - MidnightAutumn Maple - Midnight
Notes: The nights are getting darker and autumn is in its element. This variation of our fall seasonal brings both forces together for a limited time. Midnight Autumn Maple is a dark imperial ale brewed with midnight wheat, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla, maple syrup and a whole lot of yams.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours deep brown in color with a one-finger foamy khaki colored head that has good retention

S- a nice bouquet of autumn spices; allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg. Maple and chocolate sweetness, as well as a hint of vanilla. Undertones of brown sugar and prunes

T- spice notes of nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon up front, followed by sweet maple, brown sugar and caramel. Mid-palate has some apple cider notes, before turning into vanilla, chocolate and cinnamon on the finish

M- medium body with low carbonation, slightly foamy mouthfeel, finishes a bit flat

O- a fine choice before thanksgiving dinner

Midnight Autumn Maple pours nearly pitch black. It is clean, perhaps a little thin looking even coming out of the bottle, and is capped by a thin and quickly receding deeply tanned head. The ring stays around the edge but does not lace.

It smells like a Belgian Christmas Ale. Mulling spices, sweet sticky buns, and dark fruits from below. Just a touch of vanilla, but you must search for it.

The flavor is full and lively with spices. It seems as if this were packed with them all. Anise, cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and vanilla seem to coat dried figs and plums. A roasted nuttiness, cola, and molasses emerge in the end.

A wonderfully balanced brew, sweet and sticky but it's spices keep it in check. A little tingle from a combination of a light carbonation and its spices are appropriate and welcomed.

A daily beer this is not. It's one to savor sip after sip and enjoy the transformation in that duration. It's a great winter ale, and perfect to enjoy on a cold and drizzly night. Robust, and focused on its use of spices. A big thanks goes out to my brother for sharing this one with me. Cheers!

i liked this better than my ratings here would indicate, its a cool variant on a fall staple for me, i love the original, but the darker base beer makes perfect sense. it looks like a porter in the glass, close to black in color with a short but airy almost white head, some shine, dense looking, pretty in its depth. i smell fairly heavy cinnamon right away, baking spices, its autumnal for sure and warming, attractive no doubt, less maple than i want to smell, but i do get the sweetness from it. the yams have a caramelized and roasted quality that is lovely too, lots of them in the flavor, like, this is almost potatoey to me. vanilla and roasted wheat in the flavor, i love these earthy darker malts in this, its a cool layer i am afraid i might now miss in the original. lots of vanilla, this almost has a whiskey character to it with the warming alcohol too. there is a strong dose of spices here, but the sweetness actually helps absorb it, and there is a ton of starchy body thats trying to be drier from the yams, pretty awesome really what they do in this beer. too sweet to drink a lot of, and maybe a little more cinnamon than it needs, but a super fun beer thats both seasonally perfect and kind of fancy. the price is fair too. clever and delicious and high quality.

22oz bottle into a tulip. 2017 edition, so a year old.

At first, this beer is looking very nice in the glass, coal black body with initially a good size tan head with slow streams of carbonation. Over the course of the drink, the head disappeared completely and could not be restored even through some agitating.

Aroma is mostly of fresh & dried fruit. I'm getting a faint sniff of what might be yams, but not sure on this.

Initially, this seems like a complex and layered beer. spices first, some molasses and a a very light bitterness, then dried fruit and some warmth from the abv. The vanilla and yams don't come through at all. The problem comes when this beer warms up and flattens out. The only taste you get is molasses with a faint bitterness. This gets very trying about 10 ozs in. (kinda the opposite of most beers as they warm)

mouth is between medium and full, finish molasses and warmth with a faint bitterness.

Overall, a 12oz bottle would have been more than enough for me, and I drained poured the last 6 ozs. just got bored with it.

Huge bomber poured (partially) into large Tallgrass globe snifter. 2017 vintage.

A coffee brown-to-black, almost purple shaded body, with a nice tall khaki head of 2 fingers, settling in at half a finger height.

Aroma is of sweet iced caramel coffee and yams; flaked blackberry cobbler; pumpkin; decadent spice of nutmeg, cinnamon, and dried vanilla; slight fruit bread at the tail end.

Flavor is mega delicious with tons of sweet potatoes, cinnamon, nutmeg, iced vanilla coffee, and slight spiced cake. Nice acidic coffee bite on the finish.

Feel is creamy, with an outstanding balance of carbonation, a really distinct acidity, and a drying finish.

Overall, fall in a bottle. Really captures the crisp, cool autumn breeze, chilly bonfires, and broken heart, all without laying a single finger on a pumpkin. Nicely done.

Red tinted dark brown with a pretty, thin tan head that leaves a small crown. Sweet aroma with a flash of all spice. Sweet tasting as well, with some toffee and maple, and a good dose of Christmasy spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and all spice. There's a distant hint of light coffee as well. Medium bodied slightly creamy feel with modest carbonation. Could make for a good Christmas beer. A bit strong for Oktoberfest season. : )

Dark cola, tons of fizzy carbonation, head is a bit lacking. Aroma is pretty rich - lots of cinnamon, vanilla & yam/pumpkin. Couldn't really detect any of the maple syrup or dark wheat, but still pleasing. Taste has less of the pumpkin / yam, really dials-in on the vanilla and the maple syrup definitely finds its way in at the end. Spice is a little dry, anc tongue gets really really dried out from it. Not bad and a little twist on the regular pumpkn beers that clog the shelfs come autumn, but needs more balance and definitely more body.
