The nights are getting darker and autumn is in its element. This variation of our fall seasonal brings both forces together for a limited time. Midnight Autumn Maple is a dark imperial ale brewed with midnight wheat, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla, maple syrup and a whole lot of yams.

A: Poured into a nonic point glass to a black beer topped by a finger of slightly rocky light tan head which retains well and fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of warming spices, maple, a little yam, and a slight chocolate note.
T: Taste is chocolate and roasted malts with some warming spices and hints of maple sweetness. there's some yam going on as well. On the swallow there's more warming spices, chocolate and roasted malts, maple sweetness, and slight lingering roasted malts.
M: This beer has a body which is on the heavier side of medium with a slightly creamy feel on the palate. Carbonation is slightly prickly but it is not overbearing while the beer has a slightly drying finish.
O: Overall an interesting experiment in adding a little dark malt into a mash. Good flavors and complexity with the classic spice profile you're expecting in a fall seasonal beer. Interesting and pleasant to drink but it's ultimately forgettable.

Deep black color with a thin head.
Aroma with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and cocoa.
Flavor with notes of sweet potatos (yam?), cinnamon, lots of nutmeg, vanilla, some cocoa and faint coffee. Dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness.
Medium body with appropriate carbonation.
It reminded me of an Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Full of spices.

25.4 oz brown bottle - dated 8/8/2017

The Bruery Autumn Maple Midnight poured almost coal black producing a 1/2-finger light chocolate looking head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing - a little disappointing in appearance. The nose is spicy, yeasty and a little sweet from the maple syrup. The flavor matches the nose with sweet potatoes, spices of nutmeg and cinnamon noted Mouth feel is a high-medium with lower carbonation.

Overall, not a bad Belgian Strong Dark Ale, however, there are ales in this style that interest me more.

I was disappointed. Brought it to the tailgate, and I remember that the flavors--the maple syrup and yams--did not mix well with the other flavors.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours deep brown in color with a one-finger foamy khaki colored head that has good retention

S- a nice bouquet of autumn spices; allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg. Maple and chocolate sweetness, as well as a hint of vanilla. Undertones of brown sugar and prunes

T- spice notes of nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon up front, followed by sweet maple, brown sugar and caramel. Mid-palate has some apple cider notes, before turning into vanilla, chocolate and cinnamon on the finish

M- medium body with low carbonation, slightly foamy mouthfeel, finishes a bit flat

O- a fine choice before thanksgiving dinner

Split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin blanket.

S - Aromas of nice yams and baking spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, little Belgian sugars as well.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice yams and cinnamon. Good baking spices here. Little acrid and burnt with some dark malts.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall this was a solid enough beer. Nice yam and spice notes.

Taste sweet candy malt, syrupy candied yams and brown sugar molasses like, more spices like pie spices, burnt spices bring bitterness, a little bitter hop note, big fruit, dark raisin yam fruit thing, mild spices late with a little burnt brown malts, lingering bitterness

Mouth is med bod but syrupy, lighter carb but light alcohol warmth

22oz bottle into a tulip. 2017 edition, so a year old.

At first, this beer is looking very nice in the glass, coal black body with initially a good size tan head with slow streams of carbonation. Over the course of the drink, the head disappeared completely and could not be restored even through some agitating.

Aroma is mostly of fresh & dried fruit. I'm getting a faint sniff of what might be yams, but not sure on this.

Initially, this seems like a complex and layered beer. spices first, some molasses and a a very light bitterness, then dried fruit and some warmth from the abv. The vanilla and yams don't come through at all. The problem comes when this beer warms up and flattens out. The only taste you get is molasses with a faint bitterness. This gets very trying about 10 ozs in. (kinda the opposite of most beers as they warm)

mouth is between medium and full, finish molasses and warmth with a faint bitterness.

Overall, a 12oz bottle would have been more than enough for me, and I drained poured the last 6 ozs. just got bored with it.

The first few sips are nice, but by the time you finish a glass, it iw over-powering. Wanted to like this, but just can't.
