Style: Berliner Weissbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
At his core, Frederick H. embodies some of the elements you’d expect in a Berliner Weisse-style beer, such as a tart flavor profile from lactobacillus, a hint of brettanomyces and traditionally low ABV. He gets a little racy though, and gains even more funky and earthy notes from house cultures and fermentation in our oak foeders at Bruery Terreux. After nature takes its course, Frederick H. emerges with a bright, refreshing body, palate-cleansing tartness and au naturel rawness.

Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2017, red session. Aroma is tart, a bit malty with a hint of honey. Taste is tart, quite clean with a generic lactic/sour mash character.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Slightly cloudy yellow color with a brief head and little lacing. The smell is subdued but of tart fruit. The taste is tart and refreshing. Nice beer for lunch.

i always like the bretty and wood aged berliner types. i think you get back a lot of the wildness that way, and in this case without sacrificing the clean natured finish of a good berliner, the bacterial sour side of this is very tidy, sour for sure, but bright at the same time. it looks a little orange tinted in the glass and kind of flat for the style, but the nose is great, with a citrusy sourness in front of everything else, a malty wheat base, and a mature woody and bretty funk that almost smells like lambic to me. the flavor is pretty dominated by the acidity at first, but as it warms i get more of the wheat and the woody. the lacto part of this is nicely done, a lot of sourness for sure, but its so clean here, and dry too. i get a lot of nuance in the latter stages too, apricot, white wine, and minerals abound, while the sourness winds it down. lots going on here in the flavor, but it definitely needs more carbonation to keep it progressing, this gets a little heavy and slow for me, especially with all the acid. cool beer though, nice to see so many of these terreux beers coming through colorado! this was on tap at the new goed zuur, well worth checking out!
