Notes: This is our bourbon barrel-aged barleywine ale, Mash, joining forces with even stickier, malt-forward forces from our barrel warehouse to create the gooey-sweet profile you'd expect from a french toast-like creation. It rouses the senses with hints of caramel and rich maple character, summoning spices and warm vanilla notes.

2017 mash plus French toast. Poured into proper glassware. Thanks to @2beerdogs for both.
Pours a chestnut brown with ruby highlights. Just about a finger of light tan head. Spotty lacing down the glass. The nose is decadent. Pecans, maple, cinnamon are the most prominent for me. And maybe it’s because I’m thinking of French toast but I get the white part of an egg too. It’s not a bad thing.
Starts out with with dates, strong cinnamon, maple and boozy heat. More of that white egg part. What is that called? Mellow but present bourbon and more maple goodness.
Medium bodied but expected more richness. This is very well executed beer that tastes like French toast without being too sweet.

750ml bottle into a snifter appears a clear dark mahogany color with ruby clarity and a khaki head a finger strong that fades leaving stringy lace.

The aroma contains maple, caramel, vanilla, bourbon, cinnamon and earthy to almost herbal nutmeg-like spice. This smells wonderful and is not over-done.

The taste is cinnamon spice, nutmeg, oak, bourbon, maple, caramel, vanilla and slight herbal bitterness. A blend of spicing that plays wonderfully with the barrel character.

This is medium in body with modest carbonation. Far and away this is my favorite in the mash series to date and might be the overall best Bruery beer I have had in quite a long time. Exceptional.

L: murky red/Brown with decent head. Slight lace. Small ring retention.

S: good nose that captures all the added flavors of the beer.

T: the ale up front but smoothes in to the cinnamon and syrup.

F: nice shock at first then super smooth. Better as it warms.

O: I think this beer did exactly what it was supposed to do. Hit the French toast flavors on the head. Which to me seems like a pretty difficult thing to do. As a huge fan of the bruery I am once again satisfied.

Another one that was supposed to be a split with rudzud

Pours med frothy off white head with fair retention, little lacing, not much for legs, semi clear dark auburn to maroon color

Nose brings sweet candy and heavy malt, brown sugar, some caramel but quite a bit of maple syrup, big raw oak, toasted almost cedar like oak, hint of bourbon, light cinnamon and spice, nutmeg, little vanilla, some perfumey alcohol, raw cedar and oak dominating as it warms

Taste brings more sweetness, heavy syrup and maple, hot almost fusel alcohol, a bit of bitterness with cinnamon and nutmeg spice, vanilla, caramel and apple fruit, some generic baking spices as well, more oak and almost cedar flavor that gets strong and nagging, flash of bourbon, sticky sweet finish, some bitterness, nagging cinnamon and nutmeg spice as well as the oak

Mouth is med to fuller bod, syrupy, med foamy carb, hot mild fusel alcohol

Overall this was a mess, and nothing like French toast, very disappointed

The cinnamon is pretty strong on the nose and on the palette, but the maple syrup and bourbony vanilla come through as well. There is a baked breadiness that comes really strong in the taste and aroma once your palette gets used to the cinnamon and is looking for something else. The mouthfeel is medium-heavy bodied with a little bit of syrupiness that seems especially appropriate for the style. While I think th cinnamon is a bit overpowering, I still think that as a dessert brew it’s probably exactly what you’re looking for.

750 mL bottle into a giant Bruery snifter

Dark-brown with a red-hue, the brew pours with almost no head, seemingly pulled down by its own weight and viscosity.

Big, bold, desert-like bouquet. Rum-raisin jumps out front, with the added holiday spices in tow. Big a sugary aspects; besides the obvious maple, distinct notes of vanilla bean and caramel are easily parsed. Ample alcohol volatiles usher in the bouquet.

As decadent on the palate as maple syrup spearheads the flavors. Slightly more balanced here with oaky astringency offsetting some of the sugary aspects, which could otherwise border on treacly. As chewy a beer as they come, which drives home the flavor profile and seems to find its way into the tiniest crevice of your palate. Finishes long, very long, sweet and lingering.

Brew gets points for actually tasting like its title - I'm not a huge fan of French toast but can appreciate how it emulates the real thing and could enjoy this in small doses. If there's a weekness it's that it can be a little overwhelming and not the most drinkable, but hey, it's a Bruery beer

Very strange stuff. This absolutely DOES taste like french toast! A bit boozy and very old ale like (perhaps more than barleywine) but finishes and smells and overall embraces maple syrup. Not sweet but comes off as very sweet. Strange stuff.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 12/14/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy dark ruby red/light brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of huge cinnamon, nutmeg, maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes raisin, fig, plum, date, apricot, coconut, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, maple/spices, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge cinnamon, nutmeg, maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes raisin, fig, plum, date, apricot, coconut, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/cinnamon bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, light dark fruit/coconut, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, maple/spices, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slightly drying from bitter/spiciness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly silky/sticky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is extremely well hidden; a mild warmth with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an insane spiced English barelywine! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, maple/spices, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Perfectly balanced between malt, spice, and barrel flavors. Tastes exactly like french toast as advertised. The spices mask a lot of the fruity yeast character of the base beer, but there is still a solid amount there. An insanely delicious offering, and probably my favorite of the Mash series so far; but the regular and vanilla were pretty much equally exceptional in different ways.
