Notes: We’ve replaced the wheels of time with barrel heads. They don’t turn, yet they embrace the evolution of beer and time on a level that can’t be rivaled. For this Chronology Series™, we brewed an imperial porter and set it to age in bourbon barrels. Every six months, we’ll take a quarter of the barrels, blend them and bottle them. This first bottling represents the nuances imparted to the base beer after six months of barrel-aging.

Green wax capped 750mL bottle acquired through The Bruery's Society. Bottled 12/9/16. Served in a Bruery snifter.

Pours black with almost two fingers of khaki head. A persistent haze lingers, as well as a full collar but no lace.

Smells of bourbon, chocolate, cooked caramel and some trace fusel alcohol

Tastes of dark chocolate, thin bourbon, charred oak, burnt caramel and alcohol.

Creamy medium full body with restrained carbonation. Aftertaste of thinly bourbon glazed fudge with some cooked caramel and roasty malts.

This first installment in The Bruery's newest Chronology series is a solid, enjoyable porter but the barrel is still pretty weak. Like its predecessors I imagine that the 18 and 24 month aged variations are going to be excellent.

On tap at the Bruery, 2/1/17. Nose is moderate straight bourbon with some chocolate. Palate is quite chocolatey, indeed fudge-y; strikingly so for a porter. BA characteristics aren’t quite there yet given the 6-month aging, but this could turn into an enticing beer with more age.

Pours inky black with a finger of dark khaki head that has good retention

Smells of cocoa, vanilla, bourbon, oak

Taste of bitter chocolate, as well as the notes found in the nose

Nice chewy mouthfeel. Finely carbonated, not oily, lingering burn of alcohol
