A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a dense and slightly rocky two finger light tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of tons of mint and not much else. Maybe some hints of chocolate
T: Taste is less minty than the nose, but still a good bit of mint. Nice chocolate and roasted malt notes come in to help balance things out before the mint comes back around. On the swallow there's more mint and chocolate with some more roasted malts.
M: This beer has a moderate amount of heft on the body with a smooth and creamy feel on the palate. Carbonation is low but adequate for the style with a touch of effervescence while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall the end goal of this beer was to taste like mint chip ice cream and with that end in mind it's pretty successful. This beer is lacking in complexity compared to some other offerings though and the strong mint makes it a little harder to drink than anticipated.

A 750ml bottle, 2017 edition. Poured into a snifter glass.

Appearance: Black in colour with a one finger brown head that had good retention and left lots of spotty lacing.

Aroma: Light roast, chocolate, and strong mint, maybe too overpowering.

Taste: Spearmint, light roast, and only a hint of chocolate.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall: So I like a good mint chocolate any day, but the mint really overpowers anything else in this beer and there’s just not enough chocolate and roast to support the mint. The body is also lacking and feels too thin. You have to really like liquid mint for this.

Pours an ebony-tinged chestnut with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Girl Scout Thin Mints, fades down the stretch, still some mint presence

T: Very mint forward, dry, a touch of Baker's Chocolate & iron up front. Mint is driving this train, some chocolate & dryness, just a little coffee as this warms. Finishes dry with plenty of mint & just a little chocolate, got better at room temperature

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation

IF you like mint, this your huckleberry, was hoping for more chocolate to go with this. ABV is very well hidden

2017 Bottle:
L - Pitch, opaque black with a thick, creamy tan head that sticks around and leaves behind some lacing.
S - Chocolate and mint along with roasted malts - though the smell is pretty faint and could be much stronger.
T - Follows the nose with rich dark chocolate up front followed closely behind by mint intermixed with roasted malts throughout - the mint is pretty mellow and not overpowering which is good, but I think it could benefit from a little more mint forward flavoring. Maybe a little bit of caramel and toffee in there.
F - Medium leaning toward full bodied with a light amount of carbonation. Thick, smooth, creamy. Though, I wish the body was a little more viscous for a beer like this.
O - A pretty good mint stout but honestly I'd take Southern Tier's Thick Mint over this any day of the week - the mint is a little underwhelming here and could be more pronounced, otherwise, it's a pretty solid stout, but nothing spectacular.

Split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin blanket.

S - Aromas of nice mint toothpaste! Light chocolate, but this really tastes like artificial mint. Ugh.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with artificial pillow mint chocolate. Fake mint. Mint toothpaste. Gas station chocolate.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, alcohol hidden well.

O - Overall this was a really horrible beer. The mint was disgusting here. Horrible.

Big fluffy head, dark basically black beer little lacing

Nose loads of mint, little chocolate, that's about it

Taste more mint, chocolate, little caramel and coffee late, candy and stout notes, messy candy that was picked up off the floor

Mouth is med to fuller bod, decent carb

750ml bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep brown color with a one-finger creamy khaki colored head that reduces to a ring around the edge

S- fresh mint leaves on the aroma along with undertones of cocoa and light charred malt

T- mint comes through and follows the nose, followed my chocolate malt and some charred notes, more mint on the linger

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a creamy finish

O- nice mint notes that comes off as actual mint, rather than mouthwash

Black in color and impenetrable to light. There's a half inch of creamy brown foam on top. The aroma is of fresh mint leaves and a hint of chocolate. I'm tasting a very mint leaf forward beer with some dark chocolate at the back of the palate. The mouth is viscous, creamy, and slick.

2017 bottle, aging considered in my review.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance had a dark brown close to black towards the center. A thin cap of a little off white to light tan foamy head sliding off at a fair pace. Just some wisps of lace trying to stick to the sides of the glass.
The aroma had the sweet to fresh pulled spearment leaf up front with a slight spicy cut licorice root. Cocoa nibs seem more like an afterthought.
The flavor was fairly sweet with the spicy licorice taste flowing through into the cocoa nibs. Mild roastiness. Semi-sticky spearment to licorice aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine, perhaps a bit under. Mild sticky finish of cocoa nibs and mint.
Overall, I had higher expectations for this beer but still mostly solid. If anything, I would have wanted more of a balance between mint and chocolate.

-Chalice.

A: Dark coloring with a dark tan head has a frumpy and frothy texture that was fairly lasting. Small traces of carbonation.

S: Aroma of peppermint patty, cocoa nibs and sweetly syrupy chocolate and roasty grains. Generally good strength, a bit sweet.

T: The flavor had a deep sense of roastiness, fresh coffee and a strong presence of that peppermint patty-spearmint like flair. Cocoa and some boozy sweet caramel has a strong and sweet presence of hersey syrupy. Toffee, burnt fruitiness and a some milky espresso.

M: The mouthful is slick and sticky malts, bready with some milky touches.

O: A generally good beer, but a bit overbearing in its sweetness. The initial york peppermint patty aroma was nice but quickly gives. Not one of their best offerings as The bruery brings a vast amount of big beers, this is a mid-offering, boozy at 10.0% in strength, but the flavor was overbearingly sweet for much consumption hindering drink-ability. Best in moderation, not worth seeking out.
