Notes: California is renowned for producing some of the greatest zin and stouts in the world. We combine that pride and passion in this varietal of our Black Tuesday imperial stout, blended and fermented with juice from Zinfandel grapes from Old Potrero vineyard, a sustainable, dry-farmed, old vine vineyard in the Arroyo Grande Valley American Viticultural Area, thanks to our friends at Field Recordings Wine. After maturing for nearly a year in medium toast New American Oak puncheons, this release vanquishes the boundaries between wine and beer in a full-bodied foray of dark fruit, berries, jam, oak and spice.

More red wine than imperial stout. I enjoy black tuesday alone. I enjoy zinfandel wine alone. Unfortunately this cross of the two is not what I hoped for. Still nice, but not phenomenal.

Crowler purchased at DC location poured into a snifter appears a clear dark purple with no head formation.

This smells like balsamic vinegar, oak and solvent booze.

It tastes of raw oak, artificial grape extract, balsalmic vinegar and solvent alcohol with an astringency to the finish.

This is medium in body with light carbonation. Too boozy for its own good. There is seemingly no aspect of black tuesday remaining in this brew besides the harsh alcohol inclusion. Ive been following this wineification/vindictive series since the start and its hard to imagine this getting worse each time but it is.

I keep trying this series wishing it would revert back to what the original wineification was but it seems like thats not gonna happen. For how expensive this crowler was, ill never buy anything like it again. 5oz was more than enough and I didnt want to finish it let alone 32oz so what the others didnt drink went down the drain.

Brown, thin, little head foam.

Wine.

More wine than anything. Stout is hardly highlighted and it's quite hot. Some roasted malt but over shadowed by grape.

Heavy but not like a beer.

Finally split with JLindros.

A - Poured into a standard tulip a nice ruby mud no head but really phenomenal legs.

S - Aromas of nice juicy Syrah grapes, light chocolate, old almost stale beer.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with strong dark chocolate. Sticky sweet, little grape jelly, light wine notes.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, little sweet and sticky.

O -Overall this was a solid black Tuesday treatment. Interesting wine notes!

Appearance: Clear medium brown color with deep purple hues. Modest-sized light violet head which quickly subsided.

Smell: Upfront grape/wine aromas, moderate brown sugar and mild Bourbon aromas. I also got mild vanilla as well. A nice nose on this one.

Taste: Following the nose I get prominent wine/grape notes, brown sugar, mild raisin/dark fruit notes, and oak notes from the barrel aging. I also pick up some tannic oak notes from the bal-aging. I get some mild roast notes and Bourbon as well. A complex palate that hides the listed ABV well.

Mouth-feel: On the lighter side of medium bodied. The carbonation level is moderate and works with this beer.

Overall: A unique beer. I'm a fan of good wine so the unique fusion of beer and wine elements is something interesting to me. The flavor profile is complex and the various flavors play well together. An interesting spin on Black Tuesday.

Poured from fridge temp. Aggressive pour yielded a nice amount of head, but quickly dispersed. A nice dark brown/reddish color. I get lots of sweet white wine on the nose, along with a layer of typical Black Tuesday. Also getting cherries, yeast, black currant, and some nuts. Taste is really good. Sweet - much more so than the typical Black Tuesday. It's a nice fruity sweetness. Chocolate, sour cherries, grapes, maybe a touch of toffee, and some bread. It's a bit thin on the body, but overall a phenomenal beer with a huge punch of flavor.
