16oz can - this seems like a holiday-themed offering. Good thing the rep got it to us by the middle of January, then, eh?
This beer pours a pretty solid black, with subtle amber basal edges, and four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly brown head, which leaves some Swiss cheese pattern lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.
It smells of vanilla-forward Bourbon barrel wood, bready and doughy caramel malt, some free-range ashiness, medium cocoa powder, day-old coffee grounds, some dark orchard fruitiness, and ephemeral copra notes. The taste is grainy and bready caramel malt, biscuity toffee squares, bittersweet chocolate pudding, vanilla cookies, a shot of decent Bourbon, bruised stone fruit, cafe-au-lait, extremely faint shredded coconut, and some ethereal earthy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly restrained in its palate-boring frothiness, the body a sturdy middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a small creaminess slowly evolving as things warm up a tad out of the ol' basement bar fridge. It finishes off-dry, the malt, cocoa, whiskey, and vanilla essences throwing a swell after-party.
Overall - this comes across as a pleasant enough BA Imperial Stout, yet the guest ingredients kind of get lost in the fray. Not a problem, really, as the 26-proof wowee sauce quotient is expertly integrated, so much so that I'm starting to not care about what I was going to complain about anymore.

Beer Name: Bakery: Coconut Macaroons
Brewery: The Bruery
Location: Placentia, CA
Style: Barrel-aged Imperial Dessert Stout
ABV: 10.2%
Date: 09/15/2020
I served Bakery Coconut Macaroon in a Tulip glass at 50 degrees. The pour created a frothy, creamy, light brown two-fingered head with excellent retention. The beer is dark brown, nearly black, and opaque, measuring around 38 on the color chart. The slow dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The beer's appearance is above average for its style—a beautiful beer in the glass.
Nosing the glass, I smell malty, raisin, bourbon, oak, and coconut. I also smell caramel, chocolate, coffee, and molasses. With a few more swirls and a deep whiff, I notice vanilla and earthiness—intense coconut aromas with a lovely bourbon barrel.
Interestingly, the intense coconut aroma takes a back seat to the lovely bourbon barrel stout. I notice a bit of vanilla, char, bourbon, char, caramel, molasses, coffee, chocolate, raisins, and oak. I do not get coconut macaroons per se, but they are well-made imperial stouts with lots of coconut flavors.
The mouthfeel is smooth and chewy finishing smooth. The body is heavy and has low carbonation.
A delicious imperial stout with a coconut flare.

Poured into a snifter - heavy foam risen with a dark black pour.
Aromas of toasted coconut, vanilla, chocolate, toasted malts, brown sugar, molasses.
Taste follows the nose with a good milk chocolate opener followed by vanilla, brown sugar, slight toasted coconut, with molasses. The bourbon appears slightly in the end. Very nice!
The feel is full bodied, easy sipper. ABV tastes like 9-10%. Not to carbonated.
Overall this was an enjoyable one! I'd recommend it to another stout guy but the price point is a bit high in my opinion.

From a 16 oz can. Pours a thick black motor oil color with a thin tan head with very little lacing. Smell is good chocolate ,macaroons vanilla and coconut. Taste follows nose with the addition of nice whiskey notes, coconut prevalent more, Mouth feel is sweet and syrupy with chocolate and coconut. I just never am impressed with The Bruegel ,had many in the last 15 yees ,i find them overpriced and just average

Poured from a can into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a pitch-black color with a one finger head of brown thick foam. The head has a great level of retention, fading over time to leave lots of spotty lacing on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is huge of a milk chocolate smell mixed with lots of sweetness of brown sugar and molasses. Along with these aromas comes a good showing of coffee and a large amount of roasted malt and toast. While present, the coconut is rather light giving just a very subtle note. Rounding out the smell is a touch of alcohol and some vanilla, which with the rest, produce a very robust and enticing smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a very big and thick roasty malt flavor that is matched by tons of brown sugar and molasses as well as a decently strong cocoa and coffee flavor. As the taste advances the cocoa flavor starts to incorporate milk and vanilla flavors into its taste, and take on a more milk chocolate like taste. At the same time coconut flavors and some dark fruit tastes of prune and raisin develop, sweetening the brew even more. Toward the end, a bit of bourbon booziness develops, and with a touch of smoke and the flavor transitions that occur, one is left with a big and sweet, roasty and warming taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is very thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the big and rich flavors of the brew the feel is great and makes for a very nice, delectable, slow sipper.
Overall – A nice big and roasty brew with a big flavor. I would have like a touch more coconut, but even that said, this is a nice big and tasty sipper.

This is not a bad beer at all, but I think it should be just a bit more. I am not one for silly, overwhelmingly sweet pastry stouts but this needs a little more flavor.
Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Dark brown color with good initial brown head and pretty good lacing. I get mostly dark chocolate on the smell and taste. Some coconut and vanilla bean. Nice beer to try, probably not a repeat.

On tap at the Apex today.
The beer pours the expected blackish brown color with good head retention and lacing. The nose showcases light dark chocolate, with some underlying coconut, vanilla and coffee. It's nice enough, though a bit simple and light I thought. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this fairly sweet stout, and on the palate, if I use my imagination a bit, there does seem to be a noticeable chocolate macaroon flavor. The chocolate and vanilla really seem to otherwise dominate the flavor profile, and the barrel character isn't overwhelming. Mouthfeel is fairly full, and the 13% abv. is very well integrated into the flavor profile. Obviously, you can tell this is a sizeable beer, but I would not have guessed 13%.
A nice enough beer from the folks at Bruery, though the sweetness is a bit much. Just got a 6 ounce pour at the Apex, which struck me as plenty.

A nice, full-bodied, viscous dessert stout. Dark brown, tan head, nice blend of coconut and vanilla underscored by bourbon barrel aging. It's called Bakery, and blessed with a 13% ABV, so it is to be savored after dinner, and before a merciful lights out. Only quibble: Let it lay in the glass too long, and it will get boozy.

Pours jet black, small head, awesome lacing on a tulip glass.
Taste is imperial stout all the way. Boozy, but not overly astringent. Sweet. The bourbon barrel doesn’t come through, and the coconut is muted.
Great dessert beer.
