Bottle dated 2015. Pours a very light hazy yellow color with fizzy white head. Light citrus notes and some tartness on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes tart and dry. Very nicely done berliner.

Comes out a very faint yellow with plenty of wheat haze throughout it, makes for a pretty white head on the top, almost one full inch. Good carbonation. Aroma was wheat, lemon, tartness.

Taste dropped just the right amount of tartness to keep it firmly in the berlinner weisse category instead of where some have gone straight into American Wile Ale territory. This is a pretty traditional example methinks. Super light mouthfeel, always a pleasure to drink, I put away a lot of these, drink a couple bottles a month during the summer for sure. Nothing like these on a dirt back road. Amazing how much flavor they've packed into a 3% beer, hope you like wheat, lemons and a tart summer beer, this is the prototype.

Amazingly consistent as well.

S: pickles, funk, Vienna sausages

T: sour up front, definite flavor of pickles present, lemon

M: light, crisp, low to medium carbonation

O: the smell is very odd

A: Strong lemon/coriander initial aroma, followed by a moderate lacto sourness and a light doughy on the finish.

A: Straw color, totally opaque, with a very thin ring of head around the glass.

T: Lemon flavor, moderate lacto sourness and a little doughy, finishes dry.

M: Light bodied with moderate carbonation, well attenuated and refreshing.

O: Pretty solid, straight forward Berliner. Full disclosure: I’ve enjoyed Hottenroth for the last 5-6 years, prior to the recent explosion of Breweries creating Berliners. As such, I’ll always have a bit of a soft spot for Hottenroth. Having said that, while solid the aroma and flavor arent overly complex and there’s definitely a lot more competition these days.
