16 oz. can poured into a snifter.

Near black with a thick creamy light brown head.

Nose: Really nails the cherry pie vibe here with caramelized cherry and a bit of cinnamon and vanilla.

Taste: Follows the nose. I really get cherry pie from the fruit to the spice to even a toasted pie crust flavor. It finishes relatively sweet but not nearly as sweet as I was anticipating which is welcome. I don’t get much if any bourbon barrel but the cherry pie theme is very strong. No alcohol heat.

Feel: Body is relatively light, medium carbonation.

Full disclosure. I knew this would not really be a beer for me before going into it. Looks good and smells nice, but the cherry is very overpowering. Not getting any barrel character and the cinnamon is noticed more in heat than flavor. Mildly boozy. Overcarbonated.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned in 12/2019. Pours dense opaque pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of huge juicy/tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, almonds, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of molasses, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, coffee, dark fruits, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Amazing aromas with fantastic balance and complexity of cherries, cinnamon, vanilla, dark/black/roast/bready malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast/barrel notes; with big strength. Taste of huge juicy/tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, almonds, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of molasses, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, coffee, dark fruits, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery, roast, charred bitterness; and fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy red/black cherries, fruit skin/pits, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, almonds, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, molasses, dark fruits, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, cinnamon, vanilla, dark/black/roast/bready malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast/barrel flavors; with a fantastic malt/bitter/tart/tangy balance; and no cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/tart/tangy notes. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready malts, fairly acidity/tang/tannic, lightly slick/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 10.2%, with minimal lingering booziness after the finish. Overall this is an amazing fruited pastry stout. All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, cinnamon, vanilla, dark/black/roast/bready malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast/barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/tart/tangy/drying finish; fantastic soft/silky feel for the ABV. Not much barrel at all, but the rest of the beer is spot on stuff. Perfectly balanced super jammy cherries, vanilla, cinnamon, and rich malts; light earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. Not sure if I would have preferred more barrel, really could not have done it much better than this. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as expected of the brewery.
