On tap at Pazzo's in Lexington.

Pretty amber-brown pour, with a laghtfy off-white head that persists for a few minutes. Not as much lacing as expected, but it's a small glass. Legs are decent, not great, but it's a Belgian-style brew, so I'm not expecting a huge body.

This smells like a house where bourbon-pecan pralines are being made, so fantastic. I can pick out some pepper, cherries, a whiff of smoke, and brown butter. Very promising, indeed.

Taste is expectedly superb. At first, this may not seem as complex as expected, but let it warm, savor slowly, and let the aftertaste develop - this beer's various flavors reveal themselves slowly. I don't get much more than a hint of "Black Tuesday," mainly a few notes of coffee and chocolate, but more old ale/wheat-wine notes: huge bourbon/oak barrel flavors up front, pecansand walnuts, raisins (golden and dark), hints of pepper and cinnamon, brown butter, a hint of worcestershire sauce, that aforementioned bittersweet chocolate and coffee, and a touch of cherry and pear. Again, many of these flavors are so subtle they don't show up right away, but appear over many sips.

All these flavors are built on top of a moderately-carbonated beer with a medium-full body; it's a very substantial tipple, but if you're looking for a body as thick, rich, and viscous as, say, "Bourbon County Barleywine," you will find this a bit thin. Outstanding, if surprisingly subtle.

2013 vintage

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep brown that's nearly black with a small light tan head that fades to a small collar with minimal lacing
S Smells of bourbon barrel goodness with notes of caramel and vanilla with some oak. The beer itself provides some toffee, light fruitiness and roasted malts with some chocolate and coffee.
:T: Taste is slightly roasty up front with some coffee and chocolate with some toffee and fruitiness toward the back. Nice oak notes with caramel and vanilla come through well too. Black Tuesday is evident in this beer but the anniversary and white oak add some nice complexity as well. Swallow is roasted malts and espresso with some lingering barrel oak, caramel and vanilla and toffee as well as some of that fruitiness. There are hints of coconut in some tastes as well.
M: Pretty full and velvety in the mouth with soft carbonation and a dry finish.
O: Overall this beer is amazing. the flavors and complexity are just off the charts. This beer rocks the house so if you have access to it you need to buy some.

I had this on tap at The Salted Pig in Riverside, CA. Was the 17.3% alcohol version. If you like big boozy barrel aged beers, this is your brew. A perfect sipping beer. Amazingly smooth for such a high ABV.

Excellent melange. Each of the flavors comes through very well and blends together very well also. Everything I would expect from a barrel aged Bruery beer for sure.

Pours out a ruddy brown, all those caramel and toffee notes apparent in the color, thin beige head 1/5". Aroma was lots of toffee, vanilla, caramel, barrel, brown and chocolate malts but with enough sweetness that the heat nor roastiness comes out on the nose.

Black Tuesday dominates the profile, lots of sweet chocolatey booze in this one, like drinking a liquid cracker jack of 15% proportions. Dark sugar. The waves of toffee and caramel keep on keepin' on. Goes BT, Anniversary beer, then the white sap in order of dominance of the flavors. Its a really good, often overlooked beer, really fun when you have a few friends to share it with, cracked quite a few of these over the years, often once the co-main event fight gets going, that's the time for this one.

The most intriguing, complex beer I've had.

A: all the vanilla, caramel, toffee you can get from a bourbon barrel

T: so much going on... in a wonderful way

O: the most pleasant, vibrant, complex, "aged/old" beer I've had

Poured from a 22oz into a snifter. Pours dark mahogany in color with little to no head or lace. Smells of burnt sugar and bourbon. Taste the bold Black Tuesday flavor up front that gives way to sap sweetness and barrel in the back end. Very smooth for 16.9% not hit at all

L: Dark, reddish-brown, off-white faint head
S: Same as taste
T: Sweet, bourbon, peat, roasted malt, burnt sugars
F: Big, perfectly balanced, really enjoyed the mouth on this
O: Still pretty hot, a big beer but with some age, it would be just fine!

Poured from a 750mL bottle into a Bruery tulip glass. Thanks Scott for trading this to me a couple years ago. I think this is a 2013. Bottle says 15%.

Pours a muddy brown opaque body with not much of a head, it's off white and reduces quickly to leave pretty much nothing but a very faint ring. Good amount of sediment. /

Aromas are outstanding.. complex.. rich.. molasses, vanilla, lots of dark fruits to the point of being reminiscent of a heavy red wine, nutty, caramel, toffee, butterscotch, bourbon, chocolate, crazy amount of complexity coming through here, letting this warm up really woke it up.

On the tongue it's equally as complex and rich.. overall its super sweet with notes upfront of molasses, brown sugar, dark fruits, caramel, vanilla, chocolate cake, lightly boozy bourbon, followed by chocolate chip cookies, char and roastyness, syrupy malt extract, finishes sweet and rich. Body is heavy with low carbonation.

This is the definition of a dessert beer.. sweet, rich, and complex, you could spend forever analyzing the flavors and nuances of Melange 3. Very nice.

750mL bottle into a snifter
Vintage 2015

A: Murky dark brown, opaque, small light tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves essentially no lacing. 4

S: Huge nose, boozy and sweet. Caramel, dark fruits; tons of barrel notes with charred oak and bourbony vanilla. 4.25

T: Interesting. Tons of barrel notes; oaky, vanilla, bourbony, and a scotch like peat character. I’m looking for base beer characters, but its really so barrel prominent the barrel characters dominate. There are some caramel and burnt sugar notes, and very subtle stout like roasted malt. 4.25

M/D: Full bodied, carbonation appropriate, ABV is exceptionally well masked. Great mouthfeel with impressive drinkability. 4.5

O: Its good but I have to say the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts. I’d take a regular Black Tuesday or any of the Anniversary Ales over this conglomeration. That being said I did enjoy it quite a bit and am glad I finally got to try it. 4.25

Ticked on tap at a 4.9.

2014 bottle opened 2015

A - Beautiful chestnut brown body. Light khaki head pours a finger high with OK retention and low lace.

S - Beautiful as it warms. Cocoa nibs, rum raisins, soft milk chocolate, silky vanilla, warm bread crust, fresh caramel, cream, maple syrup, Belgian waffles, toasted macadamia nut, and sweet black cherries.

T - Rich and deeply complex. Cognac, sweet raisins, molasses, pumpernickel bread, roasted almond, decadent blueberry compote, rich cream, tart black cherries, and soft maple syrup.

M - Warm medium frame with a silky smooth backend. Perfect carbonation for the profile.

O - Absurd.

This is quite a nice mix of bourbon, malts, caramel, toffee, chocolate, heat, sweet miso soy sauce, and raisins with other dark fruits.

A nice blend of barleywine-like flavors upfront with straight Black Tuesday taste toward the end.

Basically a sweeter, lighter version of Black Tuesday.

Fortunately, I had some help with this bottle, for obvious reasons. Though it certainly was a good beer, I was expecting more. The mouthfeel was much lighter than I was anticipating for such a boozy beast. Similarly, there wasn't nearly as much heat as one might expect. Very sweet, which probably helped smooth it all out. Glad I tried it, but I wouldn't go through the hassle trading for it again.

2012 Vintage

L- Dark, dark brown, basically black.

S- When I finally made my way through the wax and opened it up I was a bit concerned. It smelled hot - burnt my eyes a bit. Also a bit of toffee, bourbon, dark chocolate.

T- Wow. Right out of the fridge it was still hot. Yet smooth. Is that possible? But as it warmed the flavors really opened up. Sweet caramel and butterscotch. Delicious bourbon. Dark chocolate. Quite complex but they all play very well together. The alcohol that I got on the nose is there but tones down a ton as it warms. Really, really smooth. Sweet but not sticky sweet. A sipper for sure but very enjoyable.

O- Fantastic beer. Maybe my favorite Bruery offering so far and my first Melange No. 3. I'll be picking more of these up in the future for cellaring purposes and hoping for similar results. Just fantastic.

We opened it with about six months of age on it. I probably should have waited longer. Fairly boozy, but in the best way possible. Such a well balanced beer. Smooth, despite the alcohol. Would love to taste with a couple years on it.

2013 batch cracked in August 2015. Simply amazing that this beer is almost 17% with almost no burn and full of flavors of all three of the blended beers. As many say the the sum is better than the parts.

Wow, if you like Black Tuesday, this beer is for you. The dark thick pour and richness from black tuesday was all evident. White oak sap and some of the anniversary beers available before 2013 were also mixed in. This sweet mix of booze is a great beer and should definitely be shared.

Brown color with a thick tan head with short retention.
Elegant aroma with notes of bourbon, oak, coconut and oak.
Sweet, intense and delicious flavor with notes of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, caramels, some dark fruits and cherries. Dry, sweet and roasted aftertaste.
Full liquorish body with appropriate carbonation. Incredible how they hide its 15% abv.
They performed well this blend. It is a concentrate of roasted and bourbon flavors. It is sure sweet, which is a characteristic of their brand, but it is one of the few exceptions I applause.

On tap at The Bruery, poured into mini-snifter (which would prove to be plenty). Appearance is dark reddish-brown with a tan head, streaks, and minimal lacing, which is not unexpected for such a high abv beer. Aroma is powerful butterscotch, vanilla, toffee, cocoa, bourbon heat, roasted malt, dark fruit, brown sugar, and oak. Taste is very sweet with toffee, vanilla, and fig up front. Some oaky bitterness, but not balanced whatsoever. And heat, but less than the 15% on the bottle prepared me for. A sipper, certainly, due to both booze and sweetness. Full bodied, thick, slightly oily texture, low carbonation, sweet, warming finish.

2011 bottle, definitely showing it's age but still very tasty. Milkshake brown color, toffee, cinnamon, boozy flavor/aroma. Tiny amount of vinegar comes through, but it sort of adds to the overall experience.
