White Oak is a blended beer-- 50% wheatwine aged in Bourbon barrels (we call it "White Oak Sap"), and 50% Mischief (our Golden Strong Ale). Vivid caramel, coconut and vanilla flavors blanketed in a crisp yet robust wheat ale, White Oak is an exercise of balance.

A: Pours a a golden straw with orange hues. There is about one finger of pure white head that dissipates quickly. Little to no lacing as it drinks.

S: The nose is a blend of sweet vanilla, some light toffee and caramel to boot. A nice little citrus zest appears as well. A little booze stings the nostrils.

T: Initially it is quite sweet and rather warm...no complaints here. A bit of vanilla, toffee, caramel and faint butterscotch appear but mainly sweet vanilla riding some booze. The finish is a bit warm, sticky, sweet and effervescent. A nice Earthy yeastiness provides some good tasting notes in this beer.

M: Medium-full bodied. Well carbonated, a bit effervescent and a tad high but if this beer had been lowly carbonated it would have been difficult to drink

O: I thought this was a pretty solid wheatwine. Defintiley worth trying and worth the cash.

Poured from tap into piraat tulip at gnarly barley in Orlando FL. Pours a hazy golden straw color with 3 fingers of head. Nice wheat hefe meets belgian pale aromas...banana and straw subtle peppery hops. Taste is just awesome. Belgian pale hop and german hefe banana bu it finishes with woody vanilla and toffee bourbon notes...wow smooth as hell.
The alcohol is hidden so well its scary.
Such a great brew...deff reccommend this.

Poured from a bottle into a Bruery tulip. It's a beautiful pour. Perfectly clear and gold in color with just a hint of amber. It has rather high carbonation and produces that nice fluffy head that is typical of bottle conditioning. The nose is not as assertive as I had hoped it would be, but I do get notes of grain, cherries, booze, wood, and sherry.

The beer has a full body and a strong, sharp flavor. After a soft cereal flavor teases the tip of your tongue, your mouth is assailed with bourbon and oaky notes. Booze, cherries, vanilla, dried fruit, and the coconut promised by the label all join in. The finish is winey and warming, though not so winey as to betray the nearly 12% ABV present in this beer.

I've only had a couple of wheatwines so my opinion doesn't count for much here. I enjoyed this beer, but I'm not sure the high carbonation suits it well. It opens the palate and intensifies the flavors, where I found that a bit of degassing tends to smooth the beer and adds to the drinkability. After trying two of these barrel-aged (in this case, partially barrel-aged) wheatwines, I must confess I'm not entirely sold on the concept of a barrel-aged wheatwine. I'm not sure that the grainy, cereal-like qualities of the style are well complemented by the bourbon notes it inherits. I find the transition on the palate from soft wheat to harsh booze to be offputting at first, but who knows. It might be a taste I could acquire.
