Mischief is a hoppy Belgian-style golden ale. This wickedly good golden ale is fiendishly dry-hopped with American hops to add a layer of complexity and mystery to its fruity, dry Belgian-style character. Citrus and resin diabolically combine with ripe melon, pear and slight peppery spice in a precariously effervescent mixture. Enjoy it, but you’ll want to keep an eye out. On tap at Brixies in Brookfield IL Served in a 10oz. snifter

It pours a hazy yellow orange with heavy thick lacing. This is a pretty good looking beer, even in a low light bar environment.

The nose is all hops. A combination between pineapple, orange and grapefruit. I've always wanted to use this following descriptor in a beer and I finally have a chance: Cat urine. This is the first beer where I actually could pick out that smell and it is a dead on descriptor. I handed the beer over to my wife, who is a vet nurse, and without me saying anything she described cat urine as well. It's not not nearly as off putting as it would sound and the nose was actually enjoyable. I'm just happy to finally use cat urine in a review and know what I'm talking about. My guess is a combo of Citra and Simcoe dry hopping since those two varieties are so distinguishable and I'm getting characteristics of both.

Once again the taste is all tropical hops. I'm seriously beginning to doubt any Belgian influence in the beer. At best this should be classified as a Belgian IPA; at worst American IPA. The hops taste was nice with a big citrus burst and the bitterness was more subdued with a nice light malty backbone. As the beer warmed up I searched and found a little Belgian yeast fruitiness at the end of the taste but not enough for it to be classified as a BSPA. The mouthfeel did seem a little oily and drinkability was pretty good considering it 100% covered any hint of the ABV.

I did enjoy the beer and I do prefer the juicy tropical hop flavors in my IPA's so while it was an enjoyable beer, a BSPA it is not.

16 ounce can poured into a Tulip.
Canned 10/17/23

L: Slightly hazy amber, lively pour, three finger bone-white head, good lacing.
S: Strong hoppy nose, fresh resinous hops, some fruity esters.
T: Resinous and hop forward with strong supporting malt character, very refined, hints of citrus and berry, yeast flavor is low overall.
F: Smooth and viscous medium-weight body, decently carbonated, becoming more creamy as the carbonation dissipates.
O: Good, but less Belgian yeast character than other examples of the style that I’ve tried.

Can dated 10/17/23 into pint glass. Pours a relatively clear light honey color with thin but durable off-white head. Initial impression is spicy hops, pine, and a bit of earthiness. Mouthfeel is clen and sharp. Finish fades to slightly prickly citrus. Refreshing.

Golden and crystal clear with two finger fluffy white head. Nose is earthy resinous hops with peppery Belgian yeast with floral overtones. Opens with a nice bitter earthy hops and grapefruit pith that folds into strong pear note with nice peppery yeast and ends with citrus pithy bitterness. Body is light to medium with medium carbonation. Ends dry with a lingering flora/pear and peppery notes. Overall a wonderfully balanced Belgian pale strong with lots of interesting notes from the hops and yeast and so dangerously drinkable.

I had this on draft 2/2/23 @ the Hopleaf.

Semi-opaque orange appearance.

Big off-white head; frothy, tree-rung lace.

Orange citrus, banana & tangy lemon notes in the nose.

Smells great! Medium mouthfeel.

Banana, orange citrus & lemon flavors.

Citrus forward but balanced by the banana notes. Killer!

Look: It pours golden with a bit of hazing. It has a white head with good head retention.

Smell: It is quite hoppy with citrus and light tropical notes. There are some grainy sweet notes in the background with very light earthly elements.

Taste: The flavor is a bit different from the aroma in that there is stronger earthly elements in the front with citrus. There is also a bit of pine in the flavors with a bit of grainy sweetness, light tropical notes and grapes.

Feel: It has a medium body with a bit of sweetness and bitterness in the finish.

Overall, the flavors are abundant and work well together in the Belgian Ale sense.

The beer has a chance of it being past its prime. Using a goblet, I served the beer at around 48 degrees. The pour created a frothy and airy white one-fingered head. The head retention is decent and left bits of lacing on the glass. Charting the color, it is close to SRM 6, a deep golden yellow with amber hues. The clarity of the beer is clear, with carbonation bubbles visible. The appearance is above average with a lasting head.
The aromas are grapefruit, banana, floral, oranges, hints of cloves, and fruity esters. Nosing the glass a few times, I detect caramel, herbal, and a slight band-aid smell. I did not notice anything like cardboard or other aromas to convince me of something out of place.
Huge hoppy flavors of grapefruit, pine, orange and floral. Other flavors are cloves, bananas, herbal, caramel, and lightly toasted malts. The hoppiness in the beer has mellowed a bit, making it enjoyable. I would love to try it fresh.
The mouthfeel is sticky and tannic with a full finish. The body is medium and has medium-low carbonation.
I enjoyed this take on a Belgium Pale. Overall tasty stuff as usual from The Bruery.

can into glass
Quickly dissipating, creamy, white head. Translucent, medium gold with an orange tint. A slightly spiced, lemony malt aroma, with a touch of musty dankness. A bright lemon peel character, which includes a bite, dominates the taste and the finish. There is a touch of a floral and malt, in the back end of the taste, as well.
