Bright reddish orange and plenty of phenol goodness emmanating. The off-white froth diminishes in due time, leaving

Cotton candy, peach, orange and faint hop aroma-wise.

An array of subtle light fruits precede a very slight herbal hop bitterness on the tongue. Other notes of spice and farmhouse funk are also found. All low-key but quite satisfying.

Dry and gets drier as it goes. Light to medium in body with little to no noticeable alcohol heat.

Absolutely love finding Belgian-inspired beers with touches of America in them. Winner.

I've Had Mischief several times, but let's say this review is the 4th.
Relative to the Belgians (on either side of the Pond) that I really like, there is not a lot of reason for me to have Had Mischief four times. So to explain my irrational behavior, I'll say that the yeast is great.... in fact The Bruery may have the best Belgian-like yeast west of Montreal and Cooperstown.

That said, Mischief has too much hops to be a great Belgian. Belgians understand that it is the non-hops spicing that is important. That spicing goes with food. (Hops are merely supposed to balanced the malt in Belgian brewing, but hops are rarely found in food. Too bitter to eat, right?) The American palate needs to get back to understanding the subtleties of how spicing in beer complements food. (But of course, hops are, well, the favored spice of the American beer palate.)

This revelation came as I Had Mischief side-by-side with a Belgian Had for the first-time, San Sebastian from Sterkens (basically an average Belgian Strong Pale.) San Sebastiaan let the food work and I could enjoy both. On the other side, Mischief tried to steal the show and still is dominating my palate 30 minutes after I ate.

Belgians should complement food and not be top billing. That's my stand.
