Style: Flanders Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Oude Tart is our take on a Flanders Style red ale. It has won back to back gold medals in that category at the World Beer Cup (2010 & 2012) as well as a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2010. This sour red ale ages in oak barrels for anywhere from 6 to 18 months before being carefully blended to taste. The resulting beer is pleasantly sour with hints of leather, dark fruit and toasty oak.

Notes from 1/26/15

A - About 1 finger of white-brown head. Reduces to a nice cap and collar with fine bubbles. Dark, deep ruby-brown body. Almost completely opaque except around the edges of the glass.

S - Red wine vinegar. Oak. Some vanilla. Dark, sweet fruit (plum). Maybe some chewing tobacco.

T - Really well balanced. Follows the nose. Oak and dark fruit. Finish is slightly metallic, then sweet, then underripe sour fruit and tobacco. More wood.

M - Medium carb and body. Sour, but refreshing.

O - Wow. really well balanced and easy drinking for the style. Oak notes really balance everything out. I hate stating this about a Bruery beer because of the outrageous price point, but this is worth every penny.

Big balsamic and sweet cherry cough syrup character, with a toasted malt backbone. Flavor is very acetic. Nice oak and cherry highlights adding complexity.
