Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with peanuts, bananas, and bacon

Black Tuesday is the perfect canvas for creativity in liquid form. Love Me Tender was inspired by the iconic sandwich order of the King of Rock and Roll himself: The Elvis Sandwich, topped with peanut butter, banana, and bacon. This indulgent imperial stout was aged in bourbon barrels then treated with peanuts, banana, and natural bacon flavor for a tasty treat, Black Tuesday style.

Tasting Notes:

Black Tuesday is one of our favorite beers to play with adjuncts with. Next up in this year’s Small Batch Black Tuesday treatment series, crafted exclusively for our Society members, is Love Me Tender, inspired by the King of Rock and Roll’s favorite sandwich: The Elvis. This iteration of Black Tuesday was treated with loads of peanuts, bananas, and a light dosing of bacon. Pouring a dark brown color with little to no head, the nose is classic Black Tuesday all the way. Notes of brown sugar, bourbon, and molasses are supplemented by a hefty wafting of peanuts. We think we nailed the concept on this one— roasty peanut butter flavors open up on the palate, with a subtle sweetness from the addition of banana, and a light hint of saltiness and smoke from the bacon. Open with friends and enjoy!

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like caramelized banana, vanilla, milk chocolate, and a touch of smoke.

This is maybe a little bit heavy handed. It doesn’t taste like bacon, just slightly smokey, like a charred banana or something. There’s also vanilla and a little bit of chocolate, with a nutty finish. The flavors feel spot on, but it just feels a bit overwhelming in scope.

This is medium bodied, and not all that boozy. It’s a slow sipper due to how sweet and intense it is.

This wasn’t exactly my favorite Black Tuesday variant.

Pitch black oily stout pour, no head. Nose has two distinct layers: peanuts and banana, and then bourbon barrel, never really become cohesive, but all pleasant and strong. Taste is much better though more nutty than expected, banana and a molasses flair pairs well together, bourbon, semisweet chocolate and slight vanilla round out. I had not idea there was supposed to be bacon in here until I went to write this review, never detected it. Feel is thick, heavy, very warm, and the sweetness is cumulative. Original BT is way better than this variant

12.7 ounce wax capped bottle, bottled on 09/23/21. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with not quite an inch light tan head that fizzled away quickly. Not much lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, peanuts, roasted malt and some dark chocolate. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some banana, brown sugar and some saltiness. It's very sweet tasting, but not quite overpoweringly so. All the flavors mesh well, I really don't notice any bacon at all but I'm guessing that might be where the saltiness comes from. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, recommend it more to those who like sweeter tasting imperial stouts!

375ml bottle, 55 degrees, poured into a snifter.

Pours black with small fizzy head, which fully disipates quickly. Not unusual for beers with peanuts in them.

Nose: Peanuts and barrel that doesn't blend well.

Flavor is an improvement over the nose, peanut butter with a creamy light banana flavor.

Medium body, creamy feel and a touch oily. Some heat but less then you might expect given the abv.

Overall, the banana seems to contribute more creaminess than flavor. I don't get any bacon flavor. But peanut butter flavor and creaminess play well with the BT base.

Look: deep dark Tuesday. Sparse mocha head on the pour that recedes to wisp.
Smell: Black Tuesday with peanuts. Not getting distinct banana, hint of banana.
Taste: much like the nose. Super smooth. Hints of vanilla and banana in the finish.
