Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Gunga Galunga is a black beer with Thai influence. Brewed with 100% brettanomyces, kaffir lime leaves and galanga root (also known as Thai ginger, but it's not too ginger-like). This smooth, dry and roasty beer has clear notes of fresh citrus, crushed herbs and will compliment a spicy curry beautifully.

ABV: 7.7%, IBU: 25, SRM: 30, Release: One time only

Doing some cellar cleaning, this one's been a loooong time coming. Poured into a Riedel Pinot Noir Glass.

Stout like appearance, sandy colored quick dissipating head, small bubbled lacing. Mostly deep brown and opaque.

Smells got some industrial cleaner(bleach?) and christmas ribbon candy candy aromas, some black licorice in there as well

Taste is heavy on the black licorice, star anise, was expecting more sour/brett character given how old it is. Wasn't expecting any lime or galangal and that's definitely the case here.

Feel is light overall, slightly oily, silky, medium effervescence

Really glad I got to try this and for the most part it's enjoyable, mouthfeel's really nice, smell's interesting yet not necessarily pleasant, taste is heavy on the licorice and not much else.

Bottle opened on 10.5.13

A - Pours a dark brown with a huge dark tan foamy head that fades slowly.

S - Lots of lime, some mint, a touch of Brett.

T - Coffee at first, then more mint and lime.

D - Good carbonation with a light body.

O - A unique brew, roasted and coffee but still fresh and light. I was told I must be crazy to like this one, true!
