Notes: Imperial Witbier, 8% ABV, sour mashed 1-2 days, and fermented with a blend of Berliner Weisse culture and Belgian Witbier yeast. Beer is barrel fermented in large red wine barrels (132 gal. barrels). Raspberries are added to the beer towards the end of fermentation directly to the barrel, and aged on the raspberries for a minimum of 1 month. The Berliner culture contains souring bacteria and the raspberries will add acidity to the beer. Brewed to commemorate Bottleworks 12th Anniversary.

This was provided by Duffman929- thanks man! Pours a hazy yellow with some floaties present. Not a whole lot in the way of head. The nose starts with some citric funk followed by lemon and wheat. The raspberries work their way through with tart notes and a bit of oak comes through at the end. The taste matches the nose with a light refreshing wheaty tart palate. Reminds me of a beefed up Berliner. I wouldn't call this beer overwhelmingly sour, but it does have a nice dash of tartness. Notes of lemon and raspberry again followed by some hints of wheat at the back. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Overall, the 8% is non existent which works well for this brew. A nice unique brew and worth a try.

On-tap at The Bruery

A: The pour is a murky orange-pink color with a finger of white head to go on it.

S: The raspberries and the tartness of the fruit and Berliner Weiss culture are strong. A lot of lactobacillus aroma to the beer and a moderate oak note. Mild spices and wheat from the base beer.

T: A big raspberry flavor to open things up along with a pronounced tartness. There are notes of cranberries in the beer too. Quite lactic and tart which works nicely with the oak and fruit. The base wheat beer does not come through quite as much as I had expected.

M: Medium in body with moderate level of carbonation.

O: Pleasantly surprised by this beer. The raspberries and Berliner Weiss bugs really have taken control of this and made for an enjoyable beer.

Jun 2013 bottle, opened Sep 2014

A - Really nice head; 3 fingers of creamy white foam with ok retention and lace. Moderately opaque apricot body.

S - Wit-to-saison-like aroma. Wheat bread, orange, hay, dried cilantro, lemon zest, rose water, plant stems, and a wisp of blackberry jam.

T - Really nice balance. Creamy wheat, tart raspberries, black cherry, bitter herbs, dried grass, and bright sour blood orange.

M - Smooth, creamy, medium-full body. Nice dry finish.

O - A well executed, clever take on the style.

Had on tap @ Bottleworks for the 12th Anniversary this morning. Got to meet a few other BAs at this release and it was an awesome time!

A: Spectacular cloudy golden strawberry color. Nice 1-2 finger white head with beautiful decorative lacing

S: Slightly tart fruity aroma, raspberries, a bit of tart apples perhaps, and a nice Belgian wit spice.

T: Has a nice mild fruity flavor from the raspberries, slightly tart which you'd expect from berliner weisse, but enough malt backbone for a nice smooth perfect balance. This was expertly crafted.

M: Great mouthfeel. Slightly tart, balanced malt, crisp, perfectly carbonated. No complaints here.

D: Excellent. Even at 8% this is highly drinkable. Great flavor, great mouthfeel.

From notes, served on tap at the Bruery Barrel Night 2012.

Lighter yellow with a thin white ring of head that sticks around.

Raspberry, sour lemon, funk, and slight apricot.

More tart than sour. Raspberries come through very strong. A bit acetic and citrusy.

Slightly over carbed, but not very out of line for the style.

This was one of my highlights from the barrel night. This is an exceptional wild ale.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a snifter. Served at cellar temperature. This was bottled 06/05/13, so has about 8 months of age on it.

Appearance: Pours an apricot-like orange/amber and gives a couple big fingers of head which quickly dissipate to a layer atop the beer.

Smell: Nice mild funk, mild grapes, raspberry, peach, green apple. The raspberry really takes prominence in the second half of the aroma - pretty interesting, and even more as it warms. Really nice mild-sour, fruity aroma.

Taste: Raspberries, green apple, sour grapes, mild funk, peach, lemon/lime. Really well balanced and delicious. Just the right amount of sour for me, which isn't that much.

Mouth-feel: Pretty well carbonated with a medium, creamy body. Finishes a bit dry, but a quite nice amount.

Overall: Very impressed with this beer. Hits my personal taste on just about everything. Nice mild amount of sour, with a little funk and really nice fruited flavors. Berries and brett go really well together in my opinion.
