Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Imperial Witbier, 8% ABV, sour mashed 1-2 days, and fermented with a blend of Berliner Weisse culture and Belgian Witbier yeast. Beer is barrel fermented in large red wine barrels (132 gal. barrels). Raspberries are added to the beer towards the end of fermentation directly to the barrel, and aged on the raspberries for a minimum of 1 month. The Berliner culture contains souring bacteria and the raspberries will add acidity to the beer. Brewed to commemorate Bottleworks 12th Anniversary.

This is a very interesting beer with a lot going on. Compared to other Bruery sours, the sourness is dialed back. The raspberry flavor is subtle (although it could have just dropped off a bit since this was bottled in 2013). I could have done without the spices, which overwhelmed the flavor profile a bit.

Shoutout to our opponents in Los Angeles for this one. A celebratory beer for a Mets playoff appearance for the first time in 9 years. 2013 edition so approximately 2 years old. 750 ml bottle into a champagne flute.

A - Lots of carbonation and head. Not quite a gusher but almost. I expected pinker due to the raspberries, but this one looks like straight up champagne.

N - Tons of funk. Not even sour, just extremely funky. I get some sweet fruitiness just on the edges of the nose.

T - This really tastes more like a brett saison to me. Not a bad thing at all, but I was expecting fruitier and sour-er-er. Yeah, it's plenty tart, but it's mostly a funky tartness. Much like the nose, the raspberry flavor is only marginally distinguishable. Perhaps I waited too long.

M - Very tingly on the tongue, and it's almost buttery. Dry on the finish.

O - A very nice beer. Nothing overly impressive, but enjoyable. Let's go Mets!
