An appropriate beer to drink while watching game 6 of the 2011 world series.

The beer pours a rich, dark gold color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is complex and attractive in this beer, as I pick up honey, light grapefruit, apricot, light bananna, light clove and hints of white pepper. The flavor profile replicates the nose, and I'm impressed by the depth of flavor I'm getting in this beer. The flavor profile is dominated by honey, cherry and vanilla, though the sweetness is nicely countered by a goodly dollop of hoppy bitterness in the finish. Although this beer is fairly rich and sweet, that sweetness is never over the top, and it seems to blend well with the grapefruit flavor I'm picking up. There's really a lot going on in this beer, and both the flavor and aroma profile seemed to change considerably as the beer warmed. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, with a smooth, fairly sweet, lightly bitter finish. There's a hint of alcohol in the finish, but it in no way mars or otherwise detracts from the quality of this beer.

Impressive. Another excellent effort from the folks at Bruery.

Just as I thought I was gonna get under the 40% mark for California in terms of the % of US beers I've reviewed, this jumps into my line of review fire. Oh well. Oh hey, when you read this review, understand I don't like tripels.

Pours a vibrant yellow that seems brighter than most/all tripels I've had. Big white head 4/5" deep, virgin. I can't knock the beer for its appearance, its pristine. The aroma is pretty cool, one of the better smelling tripels, it isn't doused in gasoline (what a lot of tripel yeast smells like, fusel alcohol), but has the biggest citrus presence for style ever, with some nice dry, virgin oak.

The taste was more in line with a traditional tripel than the nose. Alcohol was definitely there with the usual phenolic yeast notes, but the citrus and oak was nice. Carbonation appropriate, dry finish. Damn, I actually liked this. Big shock for me, but also still not in my wheelhouse.

It's been a while since a review was written on this one.

L - Pours an orange/golden opaque body with an eggshell one finger head. Not much lacing on the glass or retention sticking around.

S - Light spices and candied sugar up front that develops into a bready and citrus middle and finishes with some oak notes.

T - The oak is a lot more prominent throughout than on the nose. Juicy citrus comes on in the middle along with some candied sugar. Ends with some coriander spices and bitter orange peel. This is really tasty and has held up well.

F - Medium bodied and low to medium carbonation. It has a dry finish to it.

O - It's a shame this was a one-off. I thoroughly enjoyed this and would back up the truck for it.

Appearance: Pours with a transparent orange color. Half a finger of head on the pour which dissipated quickly and was not present while drinking. Medium active carbonation for the style.

Smell: Citrus notes of orange peel and coriander jump out right away. Buttery, biscuity yeast body provides a pleasant warm feeling. Oaky undertones even out the peppery spiced notes.

Taste: The oakiness of this brew is much more potent on the taste when initially hitting the palate. Lighter fruity tones of tangerines and oranges dance on the front. Heavier yeast tones take over on the second half of this brew and leave a dry texture on the palate which allows some lingering fruity tones to shine through. Oak and lingering spice character also makes itself known entire time while drinking.

Mouthfeel: Bright front which gradually fades to a darker, moderately dry finish. Carbonation was low but could be from the age of the bottle.

Overall: Included as an extra in a deal and I didn't realize that this baby had this much age on it. Carbonation was certainly pretty low but plenty of interesting flavors and aromas still present. Oakiness seems to be winning out at this point.
