Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.60%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We've all come to know and love our 40% rye malt, barrel aged sour ale, Sour in the Rye. Now it's time to enjoy that very same beer, but with fresh kumquats added to the mix. This fruited sour reveals incredible notes of both bitterness from the citrus rind as well as an unmistakable tropical sweetness from macerating the entire fruit and adding it to barrels.

Poured from a 1 pint 9.4 oz. bottle into a Snorkel glass.

Appearance: Dark amber body, thin cap of head.

Aroma: Bright citrus, with that sour aroma coming through!

Taste: Pucker up buttercup! That sourness just mellowed out with the kumquat-citrusness, a hint of oak. Perfect.

Mouthfeel: Bracingly sour.

Overall: A delicious sour that is even better than I imagined. So tart and sour with a ton of citrus coming through.

Had following reg version and Peach version. All very good, this one had the most flavor, different but tasty.

2016 vintage

L - Pours an amber copper body with a one finger paper white head.

S - Has that awesome SitR base with juicy kumquats. Amazing they can cut through the base beer.

T - Wow! So much kumquat juice and peel in this. It's yin and yang that balances the SitR perfectly.

F - To to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Dry finish.

O - This is a phenomenal beer! The kumquats come through perfectly.

2016 edition from a bottle. I have really come to appreciate Sour in the Rye and its variants. I used to prefer Oude Tart, but the spiciness of the rye in Sour in the Rye is such a nice complement to the sourness. The kumquat variant is really good, but doesn't quite reach the level of the peach version.
