Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.20%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Otiose is an English word (pronounced ‘oh-shus’) which means “without practical purpose.” It was a beer developed by our brewers during a rare space in the brewing schedule simply to satisfy their own cravings for a sour brown ale fermented with guava. Rich with tropical notes and balanced by a mellow roast, this beer brings your mind directly to a decadent Hawaiian luau, complete with the roasted pig.

750 ml bottle poured into a Goose Island stemmed glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark red brown color with 1+ finger of a light tan head with good retention. When held up to light, body is clear with good visible carbonation.

Smell: Sour cherry, oak, leather, brown bread, tropical fruit, lacto, mild earth and vanilla.

Taste: Similar to the aroma. Medium clean sourness with mildly roasted malt, cherry, oaky red wine, dark fruit and leather. Maybe a hint of vanilla in the finish as well. Not much in the way of guava though.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a soft, creamy mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Fairly dry finish.

Overall: Really impressed by this one. I my expectations weren't super high for this one, but it ended up being one of the better Bruery sours I've tried and gives a nice twist on a traditional sour brown ale. Definitely worth trying.
