Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Sans Pagaie translates to “without a paddle” and is our take on the Belgian-style kriek, a sour blonde ale aged in barrels with cherries. The base beer has a subtle funk that melds gently with the fruit giving this beer flavors reminiscent of coconut, vanilla yogurt and of course, fresh cherries. A complex beer, perfect for a warm California day in the park with a slice of home made chocolate cake.

750ml
2015 vintage poured into an oversized wine glass

A- pours a beautiful pinkish/red rose color with a small foamy white head that reduces to leave nothing behind

S- smells of fresh ripe cherries, spicy oak, toasted coconut, yogurt, light acidity & lemon

T- Tart, slightly acidic cherries up front give some juicy berry-like notes, followed by lemon peel, and yogurt. Spicy oak adds some sweet vanilla notes. A distinct coconut flavor comes in mid-palate and continues all the way through to the finish, and lingers on the palate

M- medium-light body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a dry tart, tannic finish

O- delicious sour that has nice cherry notes throughout, the coconut flavor was an added bonus

Sample thanks to BuckeyeBoy. Pours out pale pinkish tinge with minimal foamy head. Fruity aroma, sweet and not too tart. Taste is cherry jam , a hint of yeast, and lots of dry tartness. Finish is bone dry, but overall halfway between a kriek and a sour. Nice.

The Bruery is just doing such a great job with their new Terreux series. All of their wilds have been on point and this one is no different. Lots of cherries and tartness.

2015 vintage

L - Pours an opaque cherry/pinkish hue body with a light pink one finger head. No real lacing or retention, but the beer just looks really good.

S - The cherries come at you strong! Tartness and acidity back up the cherries. Clean with no funk noticeable, may'be a little oak.

T - Enamel scraping sour! Sour sour sour cherries all around with oak and acidity. And for some reason I like it!

F - Light bodied and medium carbonation. Very dry finish.

O - Along the characteristics of a kriek this is not. But, it's so sour cherry forward and hits you in the back of your jaws. So good.

Gotta love that appearance, its all like Zach Ryder, broski, pink and yellow all over this mug. Man this was a pungent sour cherry aroma.

This is enamel destroyingly sour. Very light cherry presence, its not dark cherry. Develops funk and vanilla in the mouthfeel. Really dig this beer, very good in a lot of different situations and weather.

Serving Type: Bottle (Dated 4.7.14)
Consumed: 11.29.15

A: 4 Pours a hazy, pink-lemonade color with a small off-white head.

S: 4.25 Immediately there’s lots of cherry juice, fresh cherry, lactic tartness, and lemon. Unlike Belgian krieks, not much funk or jammy cherry on the nose. After a few minutes vanilla and orange juice show up.

T: 4.25 Quite tart up front with moderate cherry quality. Lemon and vanilla are stronger than the nose suggested and oak adds a tannic quality leaving a pleasant dryness. Strong acidity as the beer lingers on the palate leaving a last taste of fresh cherry behind.

M: 4.25 Body and carbonation are both very nice. Carbonation could be a bit more lively, but it’s definitely not undercarbonated.

O 4.25 Very flavorful and tasty fruited sour. Not The Bruery’s best and not up to Belgian standards for krieks in my opinion, but definitely worth seeking out.
