Notes / Commercial Description:
5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our ‘12 Days of Christmas’ winter seasonal ale series. The only golden ale in the bunch, we spiced up the natural pause in the classic song with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with the delicious sweet and tangy flavor of pineapple. The resulting ale is a true holiday treat that can be enjoyed fresh or cellared until 2019, when 12 Drummers Drumming will be released.

2012's Christmas beer from The Bruery.
Poured into a standard tulip.

Appearance: (3.75)
Pours a vibrant, cloudy, almost glowing deep gold. A bright white, 2 fingers tall head blossoms. The head has decent retention and leaves some spotting lacing along the edges of the glass.

Aroma: (3.75)
A big allspice and nutmeg presence hits your nose first with supporting notes of sweet, yet spice driven Belgian yeast; mostly impressions of clove and banana. Sweet, biscuit malts and a twang of fresh cut pineapple become apparent as the beer warms. Light alcohol presence.

Taste: (3.75)
Orange forward hops upfront, followed intermingled notes of allspice and clove and bananas from the yeast. Middle of the taste your palate is covered with a sizable coating of sweet, bready malt and tangy impression of pineapple. The beer finishes off dry with lingering notes of juicy pineapple, sweet breads, allspice, nutmeg and more yeast driven notes of banana and clove. Warming alcohol presence, but in taste, it is very well masked.

Mouthfeel: (3.75)
Full bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: (3.75)
An interesting take on both a holiday ale and a Belgian Strong Golden Ale; I really do enjoy the subtle notes of pineapple, but overall I feel that this beer is a tad too sweet. I think the yeast the Bruery uses is a bit too sweet to be used in conjunction with the allspice and pineapple. I think i would have really liked this beer if the yeast phenols were dialed down a bit to better showcase the pineapple.
