Notes / Commercial Description:
5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our ‘12 Days of Christmas’ winter seasonal ale series. The only golden ale in the bunch, we spiced up the natural pause in the classic song with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with the delicious sweet and tangy flavor of pineapple. The resulting ale is a true holiday treat that can be enjoyed fresh or cellared until 2019, when 12 Drummers Drumming will be released.

Strong, yeasty aroma has fruity and malty undertones and hints of ginger and - allspice? Coriander? Pours a pretty clear golden amber with a fairly thick, if not too persistent, pale cream head. Flavor is quite sweet, but not cloying, notes of banana, honey, yeast, malt and coriander - and an alcohol bite that will get your attention! Texture is thick and firm, almost syrupy, with a subtle but persistent tingle, leaving a fruity, edgy, honey-sweet finish. Merry Christmas, Joyful Kwanzaa, Festive Festivus, Happy Saturnalia, and of course, Happy New Year!

Would be a much better beer if it wasn't so damn sweet.
The alcohol profile is masked very well in this one.

Definitely too sweet and the amount of alcohol was not masked very well. Not a nice blend of pineapple and orange.

Nose: pineapple, honey, sweet light malt. Very creamy – they have the Belgian carbonation thing down very well. Starts creamy and luscious with some light malt flavors and then the pineapple bursts forth. Appearance: brilliant orangish amber. Medium body to medium light. More fruit than just pineapple – finishes sweet but then there is some faint hops in the background, some citrus and some hard to define spices. Like a white wine with a little bit of alcohol on he end – no way tastes like 11.5% abv – a stealth beer.

Pours a hazy deep gold/pale amber producing a single finger frothy, off-white, shortlived head that fades to small islands & surface ring of foam that leaves no lacing. Aroma is sweet pale malts, Belgian yeast esters of pear & apple mixed with cinnamon, clove & ginger spices combining to produce the smell of mulled apple cider in a background of light alcohol. Taste is similar but the sugar & mulled apple cider components are more robust with pale malt note being heavy to pie crust & pineapple & white grape fruitiness thrown into the mix. Alcohol, sweetness & spices intensify in the peppery finish which produces a sweet, fruity but slightly drying aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy bodied with moderate carbonation, is syrupy, thick, chewy & a little prickly. This is truly a Christmas brew but is too heavily spiced for my taste. Similar to what I think very sweet mulled apple cider with a tiny dollop of vodka added would taste like.
