Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our ‘12 Days of Christmas’ winter seasonal ale series. The only golden ale in the bunch, we spiced up the natural pause in the classic song with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with the delicious sweet and tangy flavor of pineapple. The resulting ale is a true holiday treat that can be enjoyed fresh or cellared until 2019, when 12 Drummers Drumming will be released.

Poured from a bottle into a La Fin Du Monde tulip glass.

The color is a slightly hazy gold/orange with three fingers of foamy white with a little lacing left on the glass.

The smell is Brett in the nose some banana and a slight bubble gum aroma. There is also some orange zest in the aroma that has a candy-like feel to it.

The taste has real zing to it and really let's out some Belgian candy flavor. There is a banana flavor that really comes out a bit like La Fin Du Monde but with some other fruit flavor that leans toward grape and even a little pear. There is a dryness that has a cider flavor but gives more of a back end punch of tartness. Tartness where the bitterness should be.

The feel of this beer is has a full body that has a medium feel for most of it but then leans into you feeling heavier than expected. It a good drinkable feel and even with age is a pleasure to drink.

Picked this one up locally (found it recently actually), enjoyed from a hoarders high ball glass.

a - brew pours a rich syrupy looking transparent copper yellow with a thin fizzy head that mostly fizzled away except for some bubbles on the surface clinging to the glass....some spotty lace.

s - nose is a fairly sweet pineapple apple with noticeable heat. Compared to the BA which I opened shortly after this one...the non BA carries some big cinnamon notes and lots of all spice. As it warms it gets more complex though always remains sweet.

t/m/o - taste is very rich and leads with boozy sweetness. Lots of apple and pear, a touch vinous...very rich and flavorful. Syrupy. Definitely a chore to drink. A few ounces of is is more than enough. Very big pineapple notes...soft all spice.
