Cask

The Bruery Initiation Party 2013
Anaheim, CA

Murky, flat, and oily dark brown with small specks of actual peanut butter floating in the glass. Leaves the glass messy with an oily chocolate peanut sludge. An unattractive beer, no matter how you slice it.

The aroma is astoundingly good. Crushed Reese's cups (creamy, melted milk chocolate, and sweet, granular peanut butter) make for a rich, enticing, exhilarating aroma (for a beer).

Unfortunately, the flavor is flawed and doesn't do the aroma justice. This tastes of cheap peanut butter (along the lines of Jif) and harsh, distracting, detracting alcohol harshness. Tough to drink. Sweet and overly boozy. Not well integrated. I tried to pawn this off on friends of mine at the celebration and most everyone had a similar reaction.

Full in body, oily, with no carbonation.

A failure of a Black Tuesday variant.

On cask for the Bruery Initiation Celebration held at The Phoenix Club in Anaheim, CA.

Pours a murky dark brown with no head but there is a greasy film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, peanut butter, and alcohol. Taste is much the same with an acrid peanut butter flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it seems a bit unrefined with the way it came out.
