Saison TonnellerieSaison Tonnellerie
Notes: Saison Tonnellerie is a new addition to our portfolio of Belgian-inspired saison ales and it could be argued that it is the most traditional as it was 100% fermented in oak barrels.

This sophisticated beer has picked up a rustic character akin to the original beers of the Belgian countryside that would be brewed in the colder months of the year, when fermentation temperatures were more forgiving, and served to the farm staff to keep their thirst quenched all summer long. With Spring upon us, you are just in time to stock up on this new ale for the warmer months.

From 750 mL bottle to Bruery tulip glass

A: Apricot-orange in color, opaque, and forms a sudsy 2-inch head on a gentle poor. Patches of fluffy lacing stick to the glass.

S: Citrus notes hit the nose first, dried by grassy tones and pepper. A touch of honey sweetness surrounds the bouquet, along with oaky notes. Booze is just there.

T: Again, citrus notes upfront, rindy and earthy. Tart as well, with a light citric acid undertone. Lemon-pepper and oak dry the palate, while there's a touch of biscuity sweetness balancing things out. Funky, barnyard-y notes linger after a short, dry finish.

M: Medium-light in body for the style, carbonation is spot on.

This gets high marks, tastes like they accomplished exactly what they were trying to do - a drinkable, refreshing saison that throws back easily over the warm summer.

Pours with a big, head of sticky white foam on top of a hazy, dark golden body. An aroma of vanilla, pepper, tropical fruit, and spicy hops. Thick malt an start wheat up front with notes of pepper and pineapple. Finishes with clove, vanilla, and more pineapple notes. Medium thick body, modately high carbonation, and a balanced finish. Very nice, complex and drinkable.

File this under beers that I only bought one bottle of thinking I wouldn't be into it and kinda wish I had bought more.

Pours a brighter side of yellow with plenty of haze to it and about 4/5" white head on the top. It sits dense. That is a pretty beer. Aroma hits all the dry yeast, hay, clean, mineral barnyard, musty clean american oak.

Taste is complex and well integrated much like the nose. Pear, hay, strong but not too phenolic yeast presence all over this. Wood is complimentary. The brett funk is strong yet clean, this isn't a barnyard ripe w manure kind of beer (although some of that presence in de garde or funk factory beers are very nice). It does everything very well, carbonation is perfect for style and body. Did I mention the very light intermittent notes of bubblegum? I can dig it.

Damn this was a fun saison. What were these $10? Jeez, i would crush one of those every weekend around the river or whatnot. To have all that going for it with a delicious dry consistency the entire time. Its funny how many gems there still are in Bruery's portfolio that I just never ever hear peep about from anyone.
