22oz bottle served in imperial pint glass. Beer pours very dark red, almost brown, with a nice white head. Great fresh hop aroma. The smell actually betrays it for an IPA. Lots of C-hop goodness here.

Flavor is more balanced, and while quite hoppy, probably would not pass for an IPA this side of the continental divide. And back East it would lose style points for being the wrong color. Body is moderate to light. Grain flavors come secondary here.

Underneath the "Project: Failed" on the label stands the outline of the word "NITRO". Well, clearly the nitro failed; this beer is carbonated. But I appreciate that the carbonation is moderate, like the brewer wanted a strong hoppy ale in a bottle that drinks like an ungassed hoppy ale on tap.

Possible the best American Red Ale I've ever had, if not a normative example of the style.

Pours a finger on a hazy dark red colored body.
The aroma is a bold malt smell. Perfect match.
The taste is a sharp lemon bitter with a good malt balance and a long dry finish.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
It's nice and bold brew.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy red-orange amber with a thin, light tan head that dissipates to patches and a thick ring around the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus and piney hops, hints of citrus juice and tropical fruits. Flavor follows aroma with caramel malt, citrus hops, tropical and citrus fruit, finishes with citrus and piney hops bitterness. Quite nice lightly creamy medium body. A nicely balanced malt and hop red ale. Looks, smells and tastes like a classic red. A more traditional take, with assertive, but not powerful hops. I like this nicely made red ale and would buy this again.

Serving Type- Poured from a bottle into a glass delicately down the side. The beer was bought and stored in my fridge at 34 degrees for over 24 hours. Grocery stores do not chill beer appropriately. I digress

Appearance- Thin head, that leaves us too early. Color is dark almost a shade of brow, but under light it is great translucent and cherry-wood color.

Smell- I sense hops, citrus, and smoke. In that order.

Taste- Bold flavor but feels light on my stomach. A welcomed hop flavor but it doesn't overpower the palate leaving a sweet woody aftertaste.

Mouthfeel- Smooth but not creamy. It bounces on the tongue and quickly exits leaving me thirsting for the next sip.

Overall- Self admitted 10 Barrel sic o fan this new Project Failed is a great addition to the roster. As an IPA guy I leave this slightly milder and very drinkable alternative.

22 oz bottle from Roth’s Sunnyslope Market in S.Salem $3.99 Pours a clear amber colour with a large frothy/bubbly creme coloured head. Lots of resin/floral hop aromas but also a good roasty malt one..slight sourness also. Taste is malty ..semi-bitter ,some resinous hops and a odd but like able sourness again. Mouth feel is fine and with low carbonation. Odd one here..almost a "sour" in some aspects..but i liked it.

12oz : tulip

Pour a dark, mahogany red with a thick foamy, off white head.

Big citric, resiny hops with a solid caramel, bready malt backbone in both the aroma and taste.

Medium+ body, foamy carbonation.

A very well done, hop-forward Amber Ale. I enjoyed the hop-forward approach, while still maintaining a solid, malty balance.
