This IPA was formally known as Sam named after its hops; simcoe, amaarillo and mosaic, but we were told this would be a trademark issue with a large craft brewery out of the north-east, so we had to change it. We cycled though a bunch of generic names; Bob, Tom, Dick, Dan, Carl, Frank until we finally arrived on the perfect name for this IPA...Joe.

Lightly hazed, bright golden color, lush, lace-leaving, huge ivory head. Looking great.

In the nose: beautifully bitter, flush with fruit. Big citrus, slight tropical. Very nice.

In the mouth: Great texture, big bitterness from the start. Sticks around for the finish. Medium-bodied, long-lasting flavor. Powerful bursts of orange and lime hop notes. Good drinking, great IPA. Go find it and drink it up.

12oz bottle

Haven’t had this in years, I recall it being quite yummy.

Pours two fingers of pillowy, creamy white head into my can-style glass. Retention is very very good. Body is a pale orange, clarity is medium, huge amount of bubbles coming up. Looks very nice so far.

Nose is very lovely, tropical notes of mango and papaya are accompanied by citrus, and some earthier undertones. At first I get some mineral notes, now it’s opening up to a much creamier aroma once agitated. Very pleasant nose, and pretty aromatic to boot.

Flavor is a little more citrus rind heavy. Very faint notes of that creamy tropical goodness are unfortunately not as prominent here. Not much of a malt presence. Bitterness is quite high, and it is a little abrasive when paired with a beer that offers few other flavors to balance it. This tastes ok, but I find myself having some hard swigs. I love bitterness, but it needs to be balanced.

Mouthfeel is ok, but I would say it also suffers from the bitterness. Medium carbonation. Pretty dry overall, though it has some refreshing “wet” qualities. Body is not thin, but on the lighter side.

Drinkability has the same issue. Would be a good drinker, but it’s a little rough around the edges.

Appearance turned out wonderful. Lacing was magnificent all the way down, head hung around in a small capacity the entire time.

It’s not often there is THIS big of a difference between aroma and flavor, but this is quite staggering. Unfortunate because the nose is really great. The flavor simply doesn’t work that well.

12 oz can part of a six from Plaid Pantry in West Salem.
$8.25
Love the can with the dude in the wilderness with his camper shell.
Beer pours a very slightly hazy range with a gorgeous thick , luxuriant white head.
Aroma fine and citrus like hops. Balanced by a nice pale malt.
Taste is cool, has the citrus but has more dank hop aroma's also. Nice.
NIce medium mouthfeel with drying carbonation.
Good everyday IPA.. This will be good for camping next spring

Nice to find something from Bend. I usually buy local with my IPA's... But whatever.

A classic honey color. Adequate white foam head. Dissipation is slow with a solid ring left over.

Bright and earthy citrus aroma pops out of the hops. Dry leafy hop cone smell, grains from the malt, pineapple and grapefruit down deep. It's a straight classic IPA nose.

The West coast makes a very definitive style. Really brings me back to my time in Oregon and the West. Now it's mostly NEIPA!
Rich citrus hop flavor, tangy fruits, amber and medium bodied malt profile brings in sweet and earthy grain tones to balance out the medium level bitterness of these hops. Crisp and perfectly balanced for the style.

Overall, good stuff with a limitless drinkabilty due to its excellent balance and clean approach.

Solid IPA, nice hoppy-citrus bite, perfect complement to a nice Las Vegas Burger bar K.I.K. (KICK IN THE KISSER) burger!! Just IMHO!

Boy is this a treat.... delicious hop flavor that just hangs in there. Nice fresh smell and amber color. I hope it is to your liking as well. It sure did not disappoint me.
