Very Good
Joe IPAJoe IPA
Notes: This IPA was formally known as Sam named after its hops; simcoe, amaarillo and mosaic, but we were told this would be a trademark issue with a large craft brewery out of the north-east, so we had to change it. We cycled though a bunch of generic names; Bob, Tom, Dick, Dan, Carl, Frank until we finally arrived on the perfect name for this IPA...Joe.

Really like this brew. Awesome taste. Perfect balance of hop bitters and flavor. Not overpowering like some IPAs today. This almost has the feel of a session brew, but it’s got a higher ABV. (That could be dangerous!). Overall, this is one of my favorite IPAs I’ve had in a long while. Very pleased!

Poured form a 12 ounce bottle into a 16 ounce glass. Bottle date is 5 month ago hence the 3.99 price for a sixer. Smell sweet and piney with an attractive modest foamy head for the aggressive pour. Decent lacing and great mouthfeel. A little sticky on the lips. I am going with a slightly bitter grapefruit and pine taste. Just the right amount of sweetness up front that turns to a pleasant amount of bitterness on the finish. A very solid beer. Especially for $3.99. I am on my was back to the store.

A: A rich, golden hue topped with a foamy and sticky white head.

S: While pouring, the scent was quite prolific--an aromatic hop scent of grapefruit and orange zest in addition to some resinous scents.

T: A very hop-forward flavour, echoing much of the qualities found in the nose. Grapefruit citrus stands out, though there is also a hint of toasty malt sweetness that creates a nice balance. This is a pretty solid example of the 'West Coast IPA' style.

M + O: Medium-bodied, opened with a zip of carbonation on the tip of the tongue. Maybe just a tad heavy feeling, but overall a very nice experience--an excellent aroma and flavour.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Orange amber body color, quite solid if opaque with a solid hue. Creamy forming head, making slightly off white in color and a good easy three fingers of almost shaving like fine foam.

Excellent classic old citrus orange nose, mixing in with a bit of earth and dirt. Thick and hits a little dank with a nice light sweetness. Gets even into a little bit of briney sour pickle.

Good solid palate. Rich bodied and juicy, with touches of pine and earth qualities. A bit of a thick booming finish on the hop angle, gets in to earthy dank and pungent aromatics. Slightly sticky, but also quite dry and parching to some degree.

Old school and rich simple IPA. Solid brew.

Taste: woody oak notes mix with floral, piney hops, warming finish. Same with the nose. Amber, mostly clear, with white head and delicate lace. Full body. Smooth yet boozy. 70 IBUs

Oh I remember living in Oregon when they were still a micro, and it was so much ......oh who cares. Even I’m getting tired of hating beers when InBev buys them. Found this on tap at Coolidge Corner Clubhouse and it was perfect for a hot day. Nothing extraordinary about this beer, just all around very good. Glad to see it in MA, even if they sold their soul

Picked-up a six-pack of bottles at Kappy's in Norwell for about twelve dollars. I have never heard of or seen this brew before. Despite a bottled-on date in August, this was a solid brew, would love to try fresh.

A; crystal clear; medium gold in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded to a wispy cap; light lacing;

S: pineapple and a hint of coconut;

T: follows the nose; mild bitterness on the finish;

M: light to medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: knowing what the hop bill of this beer is, I wasn't expecting the flavor and aroma that I got; too pina coladaish for me;

Pour is a gorgeous golden copper color with a tan head, and ample amounts of hop haze. The first thing I notice on the nose is a sledgehammer wallop of tropical fruit - maybe pineapple and passion fruit? There’s also a significant malt presence.

The taste has a dank component (thank you, Mosaic hops), with a dollop of passion fruit - but there’s also resiny pine notes which I didn’t get on the nose, and a bitter hop bite in general, lus some nice caramalt notes.

This is an old-school IPA which is worthy of your time, IMHO.

Pours a cloudy orange with a nice thick cream colored head. Leaves nice lacing. Aroma is citrus and pine, nothing special. Flavor follows the nose, with a decent amount of malt backbone. Overall a pretty good beer that I'd drink again.

Medium yellow color with small hazy head which quickly disappears. Medium hoppiness goes great as it the right enough hops for this beer. Not the smoothest to drink but easy enough for me

L: burnished gold, mild haze, bubbles rising moderately fast. A 2" cream colored sticky foam cap with good retention perches on top.

S: tropical fruit and some light bread crumb. Hop aromas are medium and malt aromas are medium to medium low. The beer has a clean fermentation character.

T: fruit, tropical fruit, guava, and citrus. Moderately low sweetness enhances the fruit flavors and gives way to a lingering hop bitterness. The above average bitterness has a citrus rind character and is not harsh.

F: The body and carbonation are medium. The carbonation is soft, without much prickle and does not wash out the hop flavors.

O: I enjoy the hop treatment and the balance between the hops and the malt.

I got this from a self made mixed six pack swapping 3 of these with 3 of their winter beer. The beer poured a clear golden with white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had nice citrus peel presence. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with a bitter finish. Beer starts malty sweet then grapefruit bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

12 oz bottle. Bottled on April 20th (30 days old)

Pours a cloudy golden body with a white head. A little thin lacing. Some retention

Smell is earthy, funky and very prominent. In some ways the funky-ness reminds me of the smell of New Belgium's Rampant or Ranger (the old versions) but much more prominent. I'm a sucker for a prominent smelling beer and I do like that smell. So I am going to roll out a rare(for me these days) 4.75

Taste follows somewhat, but the main thing I am getting is a really nice bitterness. . After every sip I made that "ahh"... beer drinking satisfied sound. I wrestled with a 4.75 but have to give it a 5.00 The bitterness is that good !!

Crisp light feel is very nice.

Overall; Don't know if part if this is because it's 30 days old but I like this beer a lot. This one is a keeper!!

A fairly clear, Light amber with a finger of long lasting white foam. The aroma has a good amount of citrus; lemon, orange, and plenty of grapefruit. Some caramel, toasted white bread balance it out. The flavor is quite a nice blend of sweet and bitter. They both keep pace with each other until the finish, where the bitterness hangs out and builds, awhile. I'm getting all the notes from the aroma in the flavor. The feel is slightly below average carbonation, a little oily, drier on the finish, and medium body. Overall, a nice solid west coast style IPA.

It poured a bright orange color with a large foamy white head that stays with good lacing. The smell is tropical, pineapple to me with some pine hops coming in also. The taste is tropical sweetness with a balanced bite to in. The body is medium with plenty of carbonation. Overall a really good drink from 10 Barrel.

L-Clouded tan color

S-Pine...orange rind....some grungy ganja/tobacco notes

T-Big bong resin, tobacco, pine impression with a toasty malt backing...deeper in some citrus emerges with oranges and sweetened grapefruit most prominent.

F-Spot on carbonation....medium bodied....drinks nicely...

O-Very enjoyable IPA that definitely leans toward the pine side of the hop notes but also includes some citrus as well. Malt backing is perfect and lets the hop take center stage. Not a juicy IPA but a tasty one.

Bottled on Feb-2-2017.Pours into a nonic a honey tinged golden with a thinner but well sustained bone white head atop.Big pineapple and juicy mango notes in the nose,they really jump out at ya.Nice hop complexity on the palate starting out with a big shot of tropical fruits than a malty caramel/biscuit element with some sharp Amarillo's in the finish...even a hint of white pepper.I have only had a few 10 Barrel beers I'am glad to see more quality left coast offerings here in NC.

Moderate citrus with light pine and big tropical notes of mango, tangerine, and pineapple. Noticeable sweet maltiness (could be a little more) and dry finish. A very clean beer that allows some pleasant hops flavors to shine through.
