Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A Northwest American-Style IPA. The color comes through as a deep gold with orange hues. Fruity and citrusy hop aroma shines, with hints of pine resin. The four hop flavor dominates, re-enforcing the aroma with more citrus, fruity and piney notes. The malt character is clean and smooth with a unique toasted flavor (thanks to the generous helping of Victory malt), all held together by a firm bitterness. Apocalypse has a medium-bodied mouth feel, finishing crisp and dry. All of this results in a very drinkable IPA.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: 8-oz. (I think) hotel glass
From: Whole Foods in Boise, Idaho
Price: $8.99 for a mix and match variety 6-pack
Purchased: Dec. 19, 2013
Consumed: Dec. 20, 2013
Misc.: N/A

Poured a honey orange color with 1-to-2 fingers of bubbly white head. Lots of bubbles coming up. Uneven sporadic lacing on the sides. Below average retention on the top.

The smell initially reminded me of an orange creamsicle. Got orange, nectarine, some grapefruit and sweet floral notes. Very nice on the nose.

Tasted not quite as explosive as the nose, but still good nonetheless. Got orange peel, orange, nectarine, grapefruit, pretty bitter, floral hops, citrus hops and tropical notes.

Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Bitter finish.

Very tasty beer. Would love to try it again.

Pours a very pretty hold with brass highlights. Head drops off fast, but it's solid looking.

Aroma is off-putting. Sourish, with strong alcohol, and a bit of wet dog. Not ideal.

Flavor is far better! Sharp, gasoline like hops (in a good way), with big mango and some passion fruit following-up. The finish dried nicely to sticky-icky resin. Very nice.

Mouthfeel is nice. Well balanced, with good, tight bubbles. A drinking beer, not made for food.

Overall, despite the terrible aroma, this is worthwhile! Drink it cold and fresh.

Appearance: orange and slightly hazy. Thin head with thin lacing.

Smell: slightly sweet. Caramel. Hops are sweet fruit.

Taste: hop bomb. Bittered with pine.

Mouthfeel: balanced between sweet and dry. Medium carbonation. Medium body. Think Jenny McCarthy.

Overall: pretty good. Not my favorite IPA. The bittering hops take away from the rest of the beer. Strong bittering that lingers.

From a 12oz bottle stamped 3 October 2017. Pours orange with a half finger of white head. Grapefruit hop smell. Medium, resiny feel. Pine and citrus flavors, a little bit sweet. Well balanced, but a little subdued.
