look: 4.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Pours slightly cloudy, the color of orange and gold. A small head dissipated quickly to leave good lacing.

Smell is sweet and some floral hop undertone, kind of backwards.

The flavor at least has some hops, piney and mildly abrasive, with a grapefruit pith ending.

Feels immediately of the hop bite with a lot of carbonation, and a touch of booze.

Kind of lacking here, even the label says "You shouldn't taste hops in your sleep". WTF? I want to taste hops in my sleep. It's an f'n IPA, bring on the hops. They kind of wimped out here, and they don't get what it's about.

Looks a little lighter, advertises itself as a balanced ipa in a sea of unbalanced, which is never a good sign in conjunction with a kind dark yellow poor, little head but little bubbles.

Smell has a little undesireable funkiness, but nothing bad enough to take points away. Taste, mildly pleasant. It is indeed, not a hop monster, comes as advertised, balanced between bitter, hoppy and malty. Mouthfeel remains uncomplex, but seems to get better with time. Drinkability is high as result.

Poured from the 22oz bottle into a pint glass. Body is a slightly cloudy golden color, topped by a very thin layer of creamy head. Aroma of pale malt with a touch of honey and some nice, citrusy hops with some grassy notes.
Palate is Nicely balance between pale malt and assertive hops. Notes of honey, grapefruit, orange peel, and a touch of grass A slightly harsh bitterness comes through on the finish and lingers a bit. Body is smooth and a little light for the style. This is a nice, refreshing IPA that's a bit on the light side, but still flavorful.

22oz bomber

A- Pours an amber color with an off-white head that leaves a decent amount of lace.

S- The aroma is very faint even for Pale Ale standards, let alone an IPA from California. There is some malt along with hints of citrusy hops.

T- The taste has a little more flavor than I was expecting based on the weak aroma, but it still leaves a lot of flavor to be desired. The is a pretty good malt backbone with some citrusy hops in the finish. Not bad, but definitely not up to IPA standards. Tastes more like a Pale Ale.

M- The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a pretty good amount of carbonation.

D- Decent brew, but not exactly what I was expecting out of a West Coast IPA. In the brewers defense, the bottle does state that "This handcrafted IPA is the cure for the over hopped, unbalanced IPA's out there."

Overall, Blue Frog IPA is pretty decent brew, but there are many better IPAs out there to buy this one again.

Snagged up a bottle at Bottles NW in NE PDX!

- Pours a nice bright yellow and west coast orange.. only slightly cloudy... fluffy white head, and still leaving a nice thick pancake on top ..

- Bitter pine hop notes, floral ... light caramel malts... very hidden scent.. masked beneath...

- Nice balanced citrus hops, bitter as hell which I love... lemon zest, grassy.. caramel, thin sugars, not overly sweet... light bready notes... very well balanced... loving it.

- Medium to light bodied, very bubbly carbonation.... keeps it going... slightly zesty and watering... maybe a bit chewy..

- Overall this is one great underrated IPA... I am a big fan, and I bet this is killer on tap... very well balanced, and drinkable.

Clear amber with a one finger white head and copious lacings. Aroma of floral hops. (the wife said it smelled like soap) Taste is bitter leather hops with a fair amount of sweet malts. I have to agree this is a middle of the road IPA but very drinkable nonetheless. The 7%abv puts it at the upper level of abv for this style. The hop character is a bit unusual for a left coast beer. Pretty decent overall.

Poured this 22 oz. brown bottle into a Sierra Nevada hops glass. No date. The very effervescent, huge head audibly sizzled. Off-white and lumpy, it left loose soapy lace. The body was a murky golden brown.

Smell was detergent-like hops. Piney. Bready grain.

Taste was a quick bite of hops which shifted to a green lingering bitterness. Balanced with some malty sweetness. Flavors seemed a bit faded.

Mouthfeel was thin to medium in the body and carbonation. I wouldn't seek this one out.

Had on draft at Blue Frog Brewpub in Fairfield

A - very light for an IPA - almost straw color but a little darker but not by much. No head at all no lacing.

S - faintly of hops some citrus some pine a little malt.

T - Underwhelming for an IPA. Citrus upfront then some pine a little toffee/caramel malt

M - Kind of thin as were the other beers I tried while there

D - With many other GREAT IPAs in the world I will definitely pass on this one again.

A clear golden colored ale with a very slight amount of orange to it. Small white head.

Smell is sweet and even a little soapy smelling from the hops. Fair amount of C style hops and reasonable pine and grapefruit aromas.

The taste starts out neutral and a little bitter with a bit of grapefruit and woody aftertaste. There is a little floral taste here but mostly this is woody and bitter.

Mouthfeel is OK.

I can drink this but it is by no means the equal of just about any IPA. Not even up to the standards of most Pale Ales. At $5 for the bottle this is nothing but a rip-off imitation of real beer avoid it.

Note this bottle is redesigned, updated from the picture here on BA.

Shared a 22oz with a fellow patron at the bottle shop.

Poured into a pint glass.

A - Pretty clean inviting orange copper. No head.

S - Hard to tell in this envrio..

T - Nice clean finish, the carbonation bites at the end, not so much the hops being bitey, thats nice.

M - Good clean, finishes clean. Good body, substantial.

O - It was fun to try this one. I've had it years ago with the old label (not sure when they remade it)
It doesnt stand out as a go to IPA. It really lacks a strong hop profile, something that makes it pop.

Comes in yellowish, 1/2" white head. Aroma wasn't hoppy, was almost barnyard saison like. Weird.

Taste strives for balance despite the direction of getting away from that over the last few decades. Really underhopped is the takeaway here. Not only that but its a little hot for what it is.

Bought this one Dublin.

Pours clear golden with large and long-lasting head, forms dense and patchy lacing. Aroma is strong floral perfumy hops, some hints of honey, also seems to be rather fruity. Taste is citrusy hops, some pine with light bittery aftertaste. Light mouthfeel, could feel warming aftertaste towards the end of the beer.

This was the first time I tried American IPA and I found this beer to be quite ok.

Poured from 22oz bottle into Sierra Nevada Hop glass.

A: Pours light amber-golden liquid with fuzzy bubbly carbonation. Head quickly disappeared leaving no lacing.
S: Citrus hops, sweet malt backbone, sweet fruits and some slight roasted malts as it warms. There is also this weird melted plastic rubber tire smell that is a bit off putting.
T: Mild hoppiness, some soda like sweetness, and faint malt. Finishes with a nasty sour skunkiness mixed in with a mild bitter aftertaste.
M: Thin and watery. Not much flavor. Light carbonation and a dry finish.
D: Too watery. Not enough hops or flavor. Couple this with the nasty aftertaste and you got yourself a pretty bad IPA.

Snagged from a judging.

A - Pours light golden with 3 fingers of bright, white fluffy head. Dissipates slow and leaves beautiful lacing. Would be perfect, but the head is a bit light for the style.

S - Wow this one already smells tangy and sweet. Notes of honey, citrus and light grapefruit.

T - Honey, lots of citrus, grapefruit, bittering hops, and slight alcohol. There is kind of a funky aftertaste. Almost sour, may be infected.

M - Moderate bodied, dry, and light alcohol. Hop dominated as well.

D - Not bad, but some items need to be fixed with this beer. There was some grains at the bottom of the bottle and it tasted slightly sour. Nick may want to check the bottling line.

Pours pale yellow with a rocky white head that fades fast. Big skunky nose. Simple stingy, resin hops with some biscuity malt and hard candy esters followed by some late hop toastiness. Thin in the mouth. Long sour end.

One note beer; nothing to write home about.

Poured into a pint glass. Honey-colored, a little light for an IPA. Head is pretty modest at a half inch, despite a vigorous pour. Leaves some thin lacing.

Smells like melting plastic. No hoppiness, a hint of maltiness. Not good.

As far as flavor, this beer doesn't taste bad, but it doesn't taste like an IPA either. Closer to a pale ale, with a toasty maltiness that overrides the weak hoppiness. The plastic from the aroma is nearly gone in flavor but there's a little bit there.

Mouthfeel is fairly good, with appropriate carbonation and body. A little high on alcohol and there's not enough flavor to justify it. Not impressed at all.

22oz brown bomber courtesy of petecz. Served in a standard pint at 48 degrees. Poured a hazy, orange-straw gold with a loose, half inch white head the quickly dissipated into a swirl and a bubbly band around the perimeter of the glass - no lacing present on this one. Mild nose - some hints of grapefruit, as well as a sweet quality. Taste consistent with nose - starts out sweet, some citric acid in the middle and a slightly medicinal or resinous quality at the back. Mouthfeel was light-medium with a light background carbonation - a little bit of a watery feeling. Easy drinking IPA. Not a hophead's dream and not hitting all of the elements of a classic IPA, but I found it to be pretty enjoyable, with a well-hidden abv.
