Granite City is a well-known chain of restaurants, but unique (especially to the Midwest) in that they brew their own beers as well as making food. This one, located in Fallen Timbers (one of those shopping centers that's more like a small town), is no different. The vibe is nice, with good lighting, spacing (maybe slightly too much, if anything?), and dark wood accents. The food is very good, from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. The service is always good, a few times excellent but most often somewhere in between. As for beers, they serve only their own, so it's exclusive to 8 taps as far as options. They're never anything spectacular, but they're all pretty good. It's a good place to go especially for food, and the beers won't wow but they won't disappoint either.

We had diner with 5 adults and 1 child on 1-23-14.

It's open and airy with dark woods and bright lights. Clean. Not too intimate, but OK.

Beer selection was adiquate. 1 pale ale, 2 IPAs, a scottish ale, 2 lagers, and a stout. All were delicious, but nothing really special.

They offer samples if you just want to try one or two and they have the standard sampler paddle that comes with 5 regulars and 3 seasonals. It was the scottish, a belgian IPA and a two-pull of the two lager types last night.

For the non-beer drinker in the party they have plenty of other adult beverage options.

The food was very good. The menu is nocely varried. They have a large complement of gluten free options including gluten free breads for sandwiches and burgers.

We had a flatbread and a spicy glazed shrimp for starters. The spicy shrimp were a big hit.

We tried a pizza for the 6-year old, adult mac&cheese, jambalya, a gluten free burger, shrimp tacos and a steak...

Everything we chose was excelent, including the sides.

I will go back. Not so much for the beer, but for the food.

I decided to check this place out on the way home from Toledo. It is located at a shopping center. My buddy and I got there around noon on a Friday. We headed straight for the bar. The place had the feel on a little more upscale chain restaurant, which it is. They had for house beers on tap, a bock, a lager, an IPA, and a DIPA. I of course went for the double. It was okay as was the IPA.

I asked the bartender if the brewer had creative liberty with the beer or if the brewer just followed recipes. It was the latter that was the case. She did explain that the brewer mixed up his own blueberry purée for a blueberry lager. They just add the purée to their lager. She also explained that the had different mixes of beers to create about eight different beers for their sampler.

As far as food goes I ordered the shrimp tacos. They were excellent. I was not expecting much beer-wise out of this place, and my expectations were met. It is a good restaurant with some beers that may appeal to the novice craft drinker. It reminds me of a BJ's Brewhouse. Maumee Bay is a far better option if in the area.

I don't know how this place can tout the name brewery. There beer is very sub-par. The food and atmosphere is great, but if your looking for a quality craft brew, do not go to Granite City Brewery. The beer that they do brew on location is not always available, and the variety consists from blending about 4 different styles. All have an exceptionally low abv, and are flavorless.

My wife and I stopped here during a long drive from Toronto to Columbus. It is located outside of Toledo, in a nice outdoor shopping center near the Fallen Timbers Historic Site (kind of sacrilegious, but whatever).

Despite being an obvious chain in a cookie-cutter mall, we really enjoyed the place. It was great seating on the patio, watching the man-made lake and the ducks and the sunset lurking nearby. Fake but so nice!

Service is pretty good, no complains there. Food is very good for a chain in Toledo. They go a step beyond and I appreciate that. I had a great flatbread with prosciutto- first time I see "fancy" prosciutto in a chain.

Beers are good but not great. In retrospect, I think we enjoyed them a lot because we were so tired and in need of a rest. We bought a growler of one of them (the IPA) and I wasn't too excited when I revisited it at home. They're very drinkable, though, both the IPA and the Stout. Nothing crazy good here, just drinkable craft-ish beer brewed in North Dakota and transported to Ohio (interesting, right).

Price is a letdown- VERY expensive! $86 for a bunch of pints, two food items, a dessert and a discounted growler. Way much for Suburban Toledo, I think...

If I lived around, I would go back. But when visiting Toledo, I'll stop at The Oliver House/Maumee Bay Brewing in Downtown instead.

Not bad for a mall chain at all, though!

Visited on a busy Friday evening. Located in outdoor shopping retail complex right next to PF Changs.

Atmosphere: long bar to left of entrance surrounded by booths facing windows. Dining area separate from bar and located facing back of bar. Large outdoor seating area, which was adjacent to bar. We opted to sit at bar since no seats available outside. Felt comfortable to me.

Quality/Selection: 6 house beers; a pale ale, wheat, seasonal pilsner, light lager, bock and Nitro Stout. Served in 20oz tall pint like glasses. Had the seasonal pilsner and it was quite tasty. Very perfumey, floral and crisp with a slight sweetness to it. Very nice indeed, though IMHO closer to a Kolsch which is not a bad thing. Also tried the Nitro Stout. Nice roastiness to it. Not too dry with a slight sweetness to it. Nitro gave it a nice creaminess but I would like to try this on CO2 alone.

Service: service was very good, bartender offered samples of anything I wanted and I did not even have to ask. That is an A+ in my book.

Food: did not eat this time

Value: $5 for a 20oz beer that are quite tasty is not a bad deal at all. They also offer a lifetime mug club membership which costs $10 and your first beer is free. Even though I live 4 hours away, I signed up anyways since I got another beer free.

Overall: not bad for a chain and would recommend trying out.

The Maumee Granite City is located in the Fallen Timbers shopping center. The directions included in the 'View on Map' feature are misleading. Check their website for accurate directions.

Atmosphere: The brewpub is a chain and looks like a chain. The dining area was fairly sterile and quite large. The requisite glass-encased kitchen was also included.

Quality: Other than the antiseptic appearance, the food, drinks and service were excellent. The restrooms were clean and we were greeted and seated immediately.

Service: Fast and attentive. The waitress was accomodating of our two boys, bringing cracker and bread to keep them happy. Oh yeah, she also ensured that my cup was never empty.

Selection: Six beers on tap, 4 are year-round and 2 are seasonals (Spring and Summer were on). A seventh offering was a blend of the light lager and bock. I'd not recommend that. I really enjoyed the Brother Benedict's Bock and Duke IPA. My wife also liked the Broad Axe Stout.

Food: Food was good. Pizza and other pub grub dot the menu. The bruschetta salad (my wife) was huge and the Cuban sandwich (me) was pleasant. For a chain, this place pulls things together nicely.
