Never ate here but the food I saw looked good so I gave it a 3. The beer selection is pretty damn good though and the prices are fair. Service has always been great and very friendly. Can be crowded and parking is sometimes challenging.

V: Beer Run isn't particularly small, but it's crammed full of beer. As you walk in, you're in an averaged-sized bar with a cooler full of beer across from it. The rest of the place is full of single beers and six packs. There's a patio dining section as well. This place has a laid back vibe that's easy to like.

Q: The quality of the beer here is in general pretty darn good. There are a few bad brews (i.e., Modelo), but in general it's very solid.

S: The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I didn't ask any beer questions, but I feel certain they would be able to answer them.

S: A very good selection of local / state beers (Three Notch'd, Hardywood Park), national (The Bruery, Perennial), and international (St. Bernardus, Piraat). They had a small amount of draft beers (Ballast Point Commonwealth). A solid, well thought out selection of beers.

Small place that is rather packed, so not great if you're claustrophobic. Also, packs of beer are stacked on the floor so keep the kids close. The staff was friendly and helpful, knowledgeable about beers and similar tastes to build on. Pretty good selection and they do keep their Facebook up to date with fun, new beers. The bar has a nice, old vibe to it. Pricing is generally on the higher side but it's hard to compete with a Wegmans and the staff is more knowledgeable so worth it. The parking is tight, only a few spots in front but there is parking in the back. Not a fun task getting a full size truck in or out though.

Staff was excellent. Beer selection was outstanding. Nachos were great and burgers were ok. Medium was over done and well done was killed. Go for the beer selection and nachos

We were staying at the Trump Winery Estate ( yeah, I know that sounds pretentious) and this place is one of the closest restaurants around. We caught a quick dinner (I had the salmon and spaghetti), but they also serve breakfast & lunch. The locals clearly flock here kids and all. They have (I'd guess) 300 different beers in bottles, so we assembled a case of single of our choice -- at a 5% discount. Very fun.

I went to Beer run on a Monday at about 5pm and was not very impressed. Tiny bar which was full, and the staff was very unfriendly. Didnt see any beers that were notable. I walked through the store and not a single person acknowledged me. There were 2 others shopping for beers and nobody talked to them either. No reason to go back.

Small seating area inside with patio seating outside adjacent to tight parking lot. Very good and plentiful beef nachos at smallish bar. A dozen beers plus on tap...but go for the bottle shop. One of the largest selections of local, Virginia, regional and national handcraft plus international beers I've seen in a pub/bottle shop. Outstanding selection and reasonably priced!

Had breakfast here on a Saturday, the only day breakfast tacos are available (recommended). Families mixed with hipsters; grandparents, kids on their way to soccer, and young couples were all enjoying breakfast. The beer selection, which I examined after breakfast, appears to be the best in central Virginia (and yes, I bought several). Prices were fairly reasonable. Service was prompt and helpful. A recommended stop.

Nice selection. Domestic and local beers, but a large section dedicated to imports. Nothing will blow you away, but more than most stores.

Bar is great. Had lunch. Good sandwiches with probably a dozen taps. They seem to keep a good mix of styles.

Bar pricing was good. Store pricing was average or a touch high, but not bad compared to home.

Would be happy to have this place in my neighborhood.

Likely the coolest beer bar/ bottle shop I have seen.
Very good food, great selection of taps, and awesome bottle selection.
I wish we had this in Michigan.

This is a great place for both food and beer. A fairly extensive menu and everything we sampled was very tasty, etc. The beers on tap offered a great selection, and the bottle shop had many things I never expected to find. On one visit a few years back I found they had two bottles of Hanssens Experimental Cassis in stock. This is a beer many people don't/didn't care for but that I thoroughly enjoyed. So immediately snapped up one of the bottles despite the price, which I later found to be fairly reasonable for that beer.

Defintely recommend this place for the food, beer, and the bottles.

The wife and I had only one morning/afternoon in Charlottesville before driving across Virginia and West Virginia to Athens, Ohio. Beer Run was our beer place of choice, after walking around downtown C-ville and before touring Monticello.

Beer Run was mighty busy on a beautiful, sunny Sunday at brunch/lunch time. All the outdoor tables were occupied but we found a spot at the bar. The bartenders were busy and hangover but still managed to provide good service.

17 taps, with a bunch from Founders because of a tap-takeover that had happened the night before: Backwoods, Smoked Porter, Boyl'r, All Day, Centennial... and Devil's Backbone, Yards, Allagash, Natty Boh, Lagunitas Sumpin', Bluegrass Bourbon Barrel...

The food is simple but mostly organic and local. I had an egg-scramble that didn't disappoint. Bloody Mary's are delicious too!

The store attached to the bar/restaurant ain't bad either but you won't find anything rare there. They have all the major names in American craft beer, and they are a bit pricey... 25 dollars for DuClaw Retribution, 16 dollars for Xantus... damn, I've scored cheaper in NYC!

Still, this is a great place. Beer, food, gourmet coffee... a bit of everything. I would definitely visit again.

I was able to finally make it to Beer Run this past weekend.

A - It's fine? It feels like any bar USA. Reminds me of just about any Lost Dog Cafe in NoVA. The bar has a bit more of a retro feel, but the night was gorgeous so I was able to sit outside.

Q - Dat beer list. I'll get more into it in the selection. Some of the bottles on the inside were definitely collecting dust and had passed their code date awhile ago. But overall an OK selection. A bottle or two made me say "not bad" but a pretty run of the mill selection.

S - Our guy was attentive and knew a good amount about the beer on tap.

S - Alright. So, I don't get it. Top 100 beer bar in the country. Bottle selection is a cross section of a Total Wine. Draft list is, as my good friend MordorMongo put it, "I come across better tap lists at Mexican restaurants." The best beer was Enjoy by 4-20. The second best was...the new Terrapin/Starr Hill collab? I mean...I just got Troegs Sunshine Pils since I haven't had it this year and have an irrational like of that beer. It takes a simple preorder form 12% or B.United to make this list look crazy better. Maybe I just happened to hit the bar at the most inopportune time and came across an incredibly pedestrian list.

It's not often I end up this disappointed with a bar. It's not a bad place. It's a completely and utterly average beer bar. Just think about this: Beer Run made top 100 this year but Mekong didn't. lelwut?

Great place to get good local and national beers on tap and to go in bottle or growler. Ive eaten here numerous time also and the its pretty good. Plenty of vegetarian options also.

The staff here, especially the owners and those behind the bar have a good knowledge of whats going on. Its no problem to get a few samples to figure out what to get a full pour of first. 20 taps. They also typically keep at least one cider on too since theres a local cidery.

Excellent bottle selection. If you go into Richmond, the stores there get raped the second something comes out. Here you stand a decent chance of getting one offs or high demand seasonals.

Go Jay!

Best place we have found yet in C'ville. Stopped in on a Friday night and were thrilled to get a table right away. This place is a combination coffee shop, gourmet food and beer market and restaurant. For all that the dining area is rather roomy inside with plenty of outdoor seating as well. We got a nice table just inside the door.

Beer list is quite extensive with about 20 taps and a long bottle list. I went for a refreshing Union Jack and then a SN Black IPA. Vickie had an Allagash Yakuza, which is one of her favorites.

Food was a highlight as well. We had a great turkey sandwich, shrimp "burger" and mussels (menu changes each month I think). Service was friendly and prompt. Can't wait to go back.

Favorite bar in Charlottesville. Everything's great here. The food is good and relatively inexpensive. The service is timely and friendly. The beer selection is quite good, and is always on rotation. If you can't find something on tap, then you'll almost certainly be able to find it in the extensive bottle selection throughout the store.

Definitely the best place to find rare beers in Central VA. They always bring in exotic kegs from around the world and change their taps weekly. Atmosphere is best in the summer, otherwise very cramped and service can sometimes get backed up. Not a fan of their food at all - just stick with the nachos and beer and it'll count as a meal. Wouldn't mind seeing them move to a different, more open location. Feels like you're in a gas station.

By far, the best place for the widest selection of beer in Charlottesville. if you sit at the bar, you will find just about everyone is very knowledgeable about beer. They selection is so wide and they change beers (drafts) weekly so if you're not sure of some of their beers just tell them what kind of beer you like and they will get something you will enjoy about 95% of the time. Like many places, they offer a "taster" for you to try before ordering.

Free Beer Tastings on Wednesday starting at 6. a great opportunity to try new beers you probably are not familiar with. Tastings are just about always different and it is really great that oftentimes, someone from the feature brewery is on site giving the tasting and telling a great story with each beer.

The place is unassuming if you don't know where to go but if you are in Charlottesville, definitely ask how to get to Beer Run. you will not regret the stop!

Stopped here on my way to a concert at John Paul Jones Arena. I wasn't sure what to expect, my only knowledge of the place coming from their web site the day before.

Driving up from the back, you'll swear you took a wrong turn. Trust me. Then you see it, and you're like, 'Really?'  I imagine you'd feel better about it if you came in from the main road.

Approaching the entrance, you see tables to the right of the door for outside seating. Once inside, it simply looks like a beer store with a few (and I mean few) tables and a small bar.  The atmosphere is nice and cozy, however.

Craft beer lovers (like myself) will be in heaven when they see the amazing number of beers available at Beer Run. I could see myself spending a lot of time checking out all they have to offer. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option this time around.

I was promptly seated, menu in hand, but there was no beer list. As it turned out, the coolers were the beer list. Huge, huge selection!!

Food: The nachos were amazing!!!  There was a giant heap of them on my plate, smothered in cheese and toppings. I highly recommend them!  My friend had a buffalo burger, and said it was good as well.

After the nachos, the Mad Elf, the Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale and Trappiste Rochefort 10, I was good to go! Well, all except what I needed to take home with me...

Beer Run is small, but the beer selection huge. If I'm ever in Charlottesville again, I WILL be stopping in.

First time I've stopped here in many trips to Charlottesville. Won't miss this place on my next trip.

For the area, a great selection. Evolution and some rare Victory were good finds today. Also, some nice DuClaw pickups. Putting a nice room in the back for import beer with custom built wood shelves.

Not much cold stock, but enough to keep you in immediate beer. By C-ville standards, the selection is large and the quality was very good. Open very early to accommodate those pre-game beer runs!

Talked to the beer guy (Roger?) and he was quite knowledgeable about his product and fun to talk to.

I'll hit here again on my next trip through.

This is my favorite place for beer in Charlottesville. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and will always let me try samples of what is on tap (many handles, usually at least couple of locals, even a beer engine cask) until I find something I want in a full pint. The food is good, and not expensive compared to other places in the area.

Carry out selection is exceptional, and I always find something new to try. The beers are arranged by state/region/country rather than style, which is helpful in finding beer one may have tried somewhere while traveling.

Don't pass this place up if you are in the Charlottesville area.

Stopped in yesterday as part of a brewery hopping tour.

Selection was outstanding, had all of the local breweries available (those that package) as well as a huge number of others sorted by region. Had items that we don't get or have not yet seen in Richmond.

Staff seemed knowledgeable about product. We sampled some of the stuff on tap and the beertender spent a good amount of time telling us about it. They had maybe seven or eight taps.

Seating inside was sparse but outdoor patio seemed nice. Will try food next time.

This is one of my favorite places to visit in VA outside of where I live. Pulling up to the front, it doesn't appear to be too much, but then you walk in. There you have a nice 7-8 person bar with 9-10 taps and a beer always on cask. Yesterday I had a Gulpener Mestreechs Aajt and an Epic Sour Apple Saison on tape. With 10 oz, 16oz and 20 oz options, you choose how much or how little you want.

There is also ample seating inside and outside on the patio as well. The food is top notch. They make their own lager bread which is quite tasty. I've had the Hogwaller each time that I've gone because it's so good.

The best part is the beer selection; one of the better selections in VA from what I've seen and the prices are quite reasonable. FW Parabola was $15.99 for instance. Quality selection of belgians and domestics alike. Very clean ... the people running this joint obviously take pride in their product. I mean a guy was dusting the beer bottles as we were perusing the selection.

I'll come here everytime I visit Charlottesville!

Atmosphere is ok. A bit gray and unattractive. They working on it.

Quality is good. Everything is solid and consistent.

Service is great. Knowledgeable and friendly. There are times when it's slower that you might sit for a little while and not get checked on, but when it's busy, you'll be checked up on often.

Beer selection is superb. Both the take home and draft selections. Lots of stuff to try and they are great about ordering stuff if it's available. They even have a firkin for their casks!

Food is unique, good, and consistent.

Value is equal with quality.

I wish my town had a place like a Beer Run. Great food, great selection of brews, great service. It was pretty crowded when we got there, and we eneded up sitting outside - no problem - except for the sun was beaming down right onto us. It was harsh. As soon as another table opened the staff quickly cleaned it and got us under an umbrella.

Lager bread and quality meats = amazing sandwiches. Their homemade potatoe and pasta salads were great too, something different than the standard chips with a sandwich.

Great selection of regional micro brews and internationals. Overall, two thumbs up. Next time I'm in the area I will stop in again.
