Poured out of a bomber about an inch above the glass gives you a big light tan head that lasts quite a while before fading into a pretty decent lacing above a clear beer with a deep amber caramel hue that reminded me of a thick farm honey color.
A very appealing looking beer in the glass.

A light caramel malt if foremost in an aroma with a lot more going on, including some piney hops, a light earthy alcohol, and a slight grapefruit or something very similar to that.

A light alcohol laced taste of warm caramel malts, an earthy quality, and some hardy fruit hops come through as well as some other very minute tastes in the background.

A medium or even a slight more full body on this imperial with a slight dry yet slightly wet malty aftertaste with a slight but still noticeable alcohol hint to it.

I like beer like this, you can't really tell exactly whats dominate or what kind of hops or malts or other things that were used to make it but blended very well together to make pretty solid beer.

10 ounce pour at the brewery.

Creamy, frothy oatmeal-colored head is impressive. Lots of sticky lace. Semi-hazy deep amber body. 4.25

Piney and resinous hops. Definitely hop forward. Subtle citrus notes and not much malt to be detected. 4

Piney hops rule the flavor too. Dank and resinous are apt descriptors here. There's a bit of a spicy and rye like flavor and light caramel and bread notes. Not always perceivable, but there's some citrus to be found here. 4

Creamy mouthfeel beets biting spice and bitterness. Slightly sweet but more in the realms of IPA territory for hops and bitterness. Dry on the finish. 4

Been too long since I've had this and a review was long overdue. Hop heads will enjoy this.

Appearance: Excellent foam and lacing. Dark ruby red, but not terrible thick given the heaviness.

Smell: Very herbal smell. Juniper and orange peel. A hint of cloves as well.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Tastes exactly like smell. It's very strong, maybe a bit too strong. Some honey in there somewhere in the finish. I was just ok with this at first, but like it better the second time. This was flat the first time, but has a nice yeasty bite in the finish. Lots of pine as it warms.

Drinkability: More balance would be nice.

Overall: Gets better with age.

Had a pint on tap at the Marble pub. Didn't have anything with me to take notes, so I'm just reviewing this from memory. When I was trying to imagine what it might be like before ordering it, I was thinking in terms of other double reds, like Stone's 13th Anniversary and Oskar Blues' Gordon. I should have been thinking more along the lines of Marble's single red. It was definitely hop-forward, almost DIPA status, but did have a stronger caramel and toffee malt backbone than the single. The hop profile was very grassy, much moreso than the single red, but I'm not sure if this is because they used different hops, or because whatever they use just tastes really grassy in large amounts.

I really enjoyed this beer, but when I went to fill up a growler on my way out, I decided it wasn't quite good enough to justify the $4 upcharge, and went for a fill of the normal red instead.

A: pours a deep red that's almost brown with a dense three finger off white head that retains very well
S: pine and citrus with a little bit of caramel. slightly earthy. nice hops in the nose and just a hint of sweetness
T: piney hops up front with some nice caramel malt. slightly spicy with a bit of citrus plus a bit more caramel flavor and a bit bready. swallow brings more pine and oily hop goodness
M: medium in the mouth with a silky smooth mouthfeel with slightly prickly carbonation
O: great flavors, great appearance, great smell. a very solid beer that's a pleasure to drink.

Clear red colored beer with a good sized orangish tan colored head. This is pretty dark it is quite close to brown in color.

Smell is sweet and malty with a strong hop presence. Strong C type hops gives this a strong cedar plank aroma. Little bit of chocolate and pine with a trace of smoke.

Starts out sweet and malty with a bittersweet aftertaste. Strong woody flavor tastes distinctly like cedar. Very strong hops, this has a lot of malt to tame it. This tastes like a dead ringer for Stone Arrogant Bastard.

Mouthfeel is quite thick.

Overall this is good. Pretty much a slightly stronger dead ringer for Stone Arrogant Bastard.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass, unknown freshness date. This pours a reddish brown with a massive off white tan head. The smells are pine hops, caramel, alcohol. The feel is medium, the taste is pretty good lots of pine hop and caramel along with a very noticeable alcohol taste / burn.
