It takes a herculean effort to travel to New Haven from my neck of the woods. Prime 16 was worth the trip.

A small but upscale pub in a grimy area of town, Prime 16 has the look and feel of a steak joint but the beer selection of a top notch beer bar. Though the tap selection presented on a chaulk board is a nice feature, it's located at the far end of the bar which requires half of the patrons to stand up from their seats and walk over to review the list. They should either move it or provide written lists. Maroon is the dominat color with the outlined cattle head logo found at various points in the bar area. A large 8 x 8 (I'm guessing) post and beam mantle frames the tap and liquor offerings which are placed along the wall behind the bar. Steel and wood surfaced bar stools seat about 20 with a rich polished wood bar surface which makes for a classy atmosphere; mind you, not snobby but certainly not "dive bar" either. The bottle list is also listed on a seperate board at one end of the bar but likely not an issue since it faces the patrons unlike the tap list. I started with an Allegash Curieux served in proper glassware. My Cowboy burger...a hearty hunk of meat with a fried egg on top, a crispy piece of romaine, and a slab of canadian bacon was a hit if a bit warm vs hot. The sweet potato fries were very tasty but cold. They were good enough that I opted not to complain. Plus Jennifer the bartender was a sweetheart and more than willing to chat while I sipped and ate. I followed up with a Southampton Triple and finished with a Dogfish 90 minute. The 20 taps included Delirium Tremens, and several other solid offerings. The 50 bottle beer list was also a worthy list.

Prime 16 is a top notch locale for beer enthusiasts. Along with the Playwrite right next door and Bru Room down the road a piece, what a great area for a bar crawl. At the very least, stop in and support this new beer bar in New Haven.

On a trip to New Haven, we decided to go to this place. The restaurant is right near Yale with parking on the streets or in garages. The restaurant is a somewhat small with maybe a dozen tables on the right near the entrance and then a large bar area to one's left. However, the size helped to give the restaurant some nice ambiance compared to larger and louder gourmet, craft burger places.

The menu was very attractive. Multiple types of burgers with different sauces for your fries and a build-your-own-burger option. I am not sure about the bottle menu, but the tap list was on a TV screen in the dining room. Lots of good options, like Allagash, Singlecut, New England, and Kent Falls. I had New England Sea Hag IPA and Kent Falls Zep on the Jukebox. My burger was massive and quite delicious.

Our waitress was very attentive to our needs. She took our complicated order, came often to see how we were doing, and attended to our drinks when we wanted more.

Overall, I really enjoyed this place a lot and would recommend it as a hang out spot or a place for a good burger.

Modern bar/restaurant feel, bar seats about 20 with tables along the back wall, separate dining area. Solid craft selection - 20 taps. Friendly barmaid. Did not eat there.

Great place that puts most of their focus into 2 things; burgers and beers. Every burger on the menu is fantastic and the beer list is a constant rotation of all kinds of beer.

Been here so many times. Right in the heart of downtown New Haven on Temple Street across from the Omni Hotel entrance. Smaller sized location that gets packed very easily, broken up into two parts: sitting/dining area and bar area with hightop tables. Bar seats about 15-20. Food is mostly burgers, but very well crafted, cajun fries are awesome. Solid rotating tap list of about 15 beers plus stuff in bottles and occasionally a cask offering. Worth a trip if you're in the area, by far the best tap list around given the smaller number of taps they have.

passing through New Haven so popped in and was pleasantly surprised. Not the largest selection i seen but everything on the list was worth the visit. Burgers were out of this world. I eat tons of burgers so it's rare that i get one that wows me, Cooked to perfection RAREinside and blackened on the outside. Staff was quick and friendly and knew there beer. Will gladly stop in again if im in the area,
