this isnt retired at all, its everywhere here in sarajevo. half liter cans going real cheap at the moment. smells like the can it comes in unfortunately, and without a born on date, it may well be a retired product from awhile back. nose also has that spent grain stink that reminds you its still a beer. flavor is weirdly absent, it doesnt taste like water, but its beer components are muted somehow. im wondering definitely if this is something kind of old. flavors just never seem to come out i any meaningful way. its probably just as well because all i can taste is extract malt and bread yeast. feel is bubbly and light, heavy in the gut though. nothing special.

Light straw with a tige of gold and a thin, bubbly white head with okay retention that slowly turns to a soapy lacing.

Light on the nose with cheap lager hops and some very basic malts along with a lot of skunk and grain. There is some corn and various cheap adjuncts but this one smells pretty poor.

Basic malts and some corn along with light lager hops and some adjuncts too. There is a little bread as well and very light citrus in the background.

Light, thin on the palate with lots of carbonation and gas. Not great at all and it makes it a tougher beer to dirnk than it should otherwise have been.

A very poor beer here and definiteley one of the worst Croatian beers that I have tried, probably the worst. It had nother going for it at all and was a struggle to drink towards the end.

Can from a corner store in Sarajevo. From notes.

A - Poured a typical yellow lager colour with lot's of carbonation and a two finger head that faded fast. Predictable style characteristics sadly. Retention was ok with no lacing.

S - Corny grain. Bored before I took a sip.

T - Sweet grain and some herbal hops. Not much depth or complexity but better than the aroma.

M - Mild carbonation and a light body. Lingering sweeness. A little oily.

O/D - Simple. Not tasty or interesting. The same beer exists 4 times over in every other country so why would I want this one? Easy to drink if there's nothing else available.

Appearance - typical euro pale. a musty golden, small head.

Smell - not strong, a little bitter.

T - couldnt pick up a damn thing here. just bitter, not from hops either. just a sock in the mouth bitter

M - not too bad, but not great either. my notes are inadequate but i remember it going down decent it was just the taste that didnt make me want to start again

I really wanted to like this beer because of its name. it just couldnt happen.

A - Pours a thin white head that lingers.

S - slightly bready, earthy, not very strong and hard to pick up much aroma.

T - Not picking up very much in the way of spices

M - Full bodied enough

D - not satisfied at all - I was expect much more... well one of Carlsberg serial productions

I had this beer in bottle served at a harbour front cafe in Split, Croatia. The only other beers the cafe had were Heineken and Tuburg or Guiness on Tap (all to be avoided in my opinion!) and I always ask for a local brewed beer and was brought this. The bottle was green glass and with green label simply marked PAN Lager (not as descibed in the review below) and as I did not know who brewed it had no preconceptions of what to expect.

The beer poured bright gold colour and crystal clear, with decent white head that stayed a while. Aroma was typical of a mass produced Euro lager - 'grassy' and dry, with slight hint of malts and hops. Taste was bright, fresh and clean as expected, leaning to some hoppy bitterness in the finish. Light in texture, but I thought fairly satisfying, and, in the conditions I was drinking it - a very hot sunny afternoon - it went down well. I had no idea it was brewed by a Carlsberg sub, otherwise might have felt differently! I can only say I enjoyed this at the time, it had no serious vices, and was easy to drink and refreshing. No great depth of flavours or the complexity of the great German or Czech brews, but pleasant non-the-less.

Maybe under different conditions I might have felt differently - and there are better Croatian/Slovenian beers on tap - like Lasko and Karlovacko - but this hit the spot at the time!

Comes in a pretty standard half-litre brown bottle, with a green, white and yellow label bearing proud Croatian mottos.

Pours a gold-just-turning-to-amber hue, with masses and masses of fizzy, coarse-bubbled carbonation. Head fizzes like soft drink very quickly, then disappears, leaving not even a hint of a ring around the glass. Hugely overcarbonated, it looks like a soft drink. Possibly the most unappealing looking beer I've ever seen.

Slightly salty, sea-water type aroma on the nose, with a hint of rubbing alcohol and menthol. The only good thing you can say about it is that it's not overpowering, but it's by no means good.

The taste actually starts off reasonably well, with a hint of hoppy bitterness, but then is decends through a bland, watery nothingness, only to come back and stab you in the back with a truly unpleasant bread-yeast character that sticks to the back of your mouth. Mouthfeel is overcarbonated. Far from pleasant.

A truly unpleasant brew. To top it off, the carbonation makes you feel bloated after only a little while. Undrinkable.
