Notes / Commercial Description:
Who would have told Louis Moritz, who came to Barcelona originally from Alsace, that more than 150 years later his beer would become a symbol of the city, woven in with its culture, gastronomy and history? Without overlooking of course its taste and quality.

12 oz bottle purchased while in Las Vegas in November poured into my beer goblet. The bottled date appears to be 7/22/11.

Appearance: The usual pale yellow, but this one is not clear. It has some floaties that do not look very appetizing in a pale beer. What head there was hung around briefly and was white.

Smell: A sour apple sort of smell, this is actually pretty good. Maybe a touch of faint earthy hops. The malts are the pale cereal and corn types of smells.

Taste: This one actually has some taste, as compared to our American Pale Lagers. The sour apple carries carries over from the nose. The malts have an unsmooth sweetness to them. Not my favorite style by any means, but not altogether bad, more than I was expecting.

Mouthfeel: The body is appropriate for the style, as is the carbonation.

Overall: Not my favorite style, but not an altogether bad beer. This style does not leave a lot of room for flavor or experimentation, but this beer does have a little flavor going for it. Give it a try to have had a beer from Spain.

Hop Spice, Cereal, Crisp

A beer with a bit of history, its roots come from Louis Moritz who moved to Barcelona from Alsace over 150 years ago. Clearly a mash-up of Euro styles. Crystal clear, very crisp and well hopped with Saaz, its light maltiness shows a bit of cereal grain. Clean for the most part, with a bit of creamed corn and apple skin, though not enough of either to hinder our drinking. Good balance between the clean-cut hoppiness and the snappy grain character. Certainly one of the better lagers to come out of Spain.

Clear yellow colour. Smells like lemon and lime, like a Corona with lime. Tastes light, citrusy and clean. Lime notes, mild malt body throughout, and mild grain notes. Mostly clean finish, bit of lingering malt.

Gold in color with excellent clarity. There's a fingernail of off white around the rim and most of the top. The aroma is solely that of corn and I really had to work to get even that. I taste corn and a slightly metallic finish. The mouth is very light and crisp. This is meant to be consumed uber cold.

11oz bottle at fridge temp poured into an SA perfect pint glass. 28-5-2011 stamped on the back, assuming this is the bottled on date.

pours a fairly clear straw yellow to light golden color, lots of fluffy, flakey looking sediment. about one fingers worth of a tight white head. decent retention, keeping a creamy layer almost the whole way, and bits of lacing. the wierd flakes were a bit of a turn off, otherwise a decent looking beer.

buttery, sweet, grains. maybe even the slightest bit skunky.

sweet, buttered grains, mineral water, very soft, light floral/ herbal hop. just a hint of skunk.

finishes crisp, high carbonation, somewhat creamy. light slightly watered down body.

a pretty average pale lager. better than most american macros and i gotta have respect for it because its got my name on the label.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2013. Purchased a little while ago from a webshop. I had this a few years ago on a trip to Barcelona - I remember it being pretty good.

Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear pale-yellow colour with decent carbonation. Forms a small head of white foam that settles swiftly as a thin surface layer. Aroma of light malt with hints of stewed hops, tart apples and faint, buttery diacetyl (almost like popcorn). Slightly fruity but not quite right.

Tastes of light malt with a dry finish. Notes of green apples and subtle stewed hops. A dry bitterness upon swallowing, with a faintly harsh quality. Mouthfeel is light, dry and tingly. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of mild stewed hops.

Not as good as I recall - in Barcelona it seemed to have a pleasing floral quality. Oh well. Not a brilliant lager; too many off-notes in the aroma/flavour. The tart apples notes are presumably acetaldehyde. The stewed hops are also rather harsh and dry, with no hop aromatics to be discerned. All in all, not that great - no need to seek it out.

330ml bottle. I had a wheelchair-bound woman from Spain tell me a few months ago that this stuff was the proverbial shit. Who am I to question such nationalistic fervour?

This beer pours a clear pale golden colour, with one finger of broadly foamy off-white head, which leaves a low, slowly ebbing wash of painted lace around the glass as it hastily settles.

It smells of mild, sweet bready malt, kind of pastry-like, a bit of sugared apple and pear, and soft, earthy, musty hops. The taste is bready, somewhat biscuity malt, with a nice even sweetness, a subtle orchard fruitiness, and underwhelming grassy, leafy hops.

The carbonation is quite subtle, and non-intrusive, the body a decently hefty medium weight, with a general, pleasant smoothness. It finishes on the sweet side, the bakery-abutting malt still happy to provide the main flourish as things peter out.

An agreeable enough pale lager, with more cream or blonde ale characteristics than is the norm, but hey, who's complaining - you get a relative buttload (that's metric, for you Yanks) more bang for your buck, even with the dear import prices around here.

Pours a translucent golden-yellow with very little white head and no retention.

Simple nose. Light pale malt with a hint of wheat and lemon.

First sip was a little better than anticipated. As I noted while drinking "Lhasa" I thought it was Chinas version of Bud, this I think is Spain's version of Bud. Both definitely being better than Bud. Light sweet pale malt character. Not much going on. Just a light, smooth easy drinking lager.

Mouthfeel light to medium bodied with decent carbonation.

Overall it's not bad. I see it being great beer for easy drinking in summer weather while putting away a ton of tapas.

Pours yellow with a lot of fast fading foamy off white head. Not quite cheesy aroma, but not impressive. A tad thin mouthfeel, rather dull taste of cardboard and hay, and not very drinkable.Borderline metalic. No hook at all. Thanks for bringing back Mark.

Moritz from Barcelona, Espana.
Still in code; dated on both the front and back labels.

Interesting beer. Unlike most "Euro" lagers this one has a lot of character to it. It looks the part of a cookie-cutter lager given its clear, deep golden body and bright white head, but the flavor is distinct.

It's a slight touch buttery, which along with the sweet malt and moderate bitterness, gives it a suggestion of creaminess. It's also very floral, and the combination of the two really makes it stand out. It tastes, in fact, more like a golden an ale than a lager.

However with all of that said, the minor bit of diacetyl, and perhaps even some dimethyl sulfide (I'm not sure), could be looked at as a defect. I, on the other hand, feel that it's at a low enough level that it doesn't throw off the balance and, in fact, lends it some complexity.

Interesting. Unique. Enjoyable.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Columbia, SC. The appearance is a clear golden yellow with a medium sized white head. The aroma is a clean slight hop and fruit smell. The taste is similar to the smell with a little bit of bitterness on the back end.

First beer my girlfriend unpacked and gave me from her trip to barcelona. "she said you probably won't like this one" but I've got a (small) good feeling about it.

A- Clear bright gold topped by a slightly chewy looking white head. Nice elegant lacing.

S- Smells a lot better than the two earlier beers I've tried from her haul. Smells quite nice. Like a fruit i can't quite put my finger on. Frozen raspberry maybe? Very little to offend.

T- Yeah pretty sure it's frozen raspberry I'm getting. Although i really don't think frozen raspberries are good, it is a nice surprise in this beer. Interesting touch of green hops. Bitterness isn't the cleanest, rather artificial. A little acidic. 5.4% abv is very well concealed.

M- Very smooth. Low carbonation. Pretty fluffy. Not dry. Could use a little more crispness.

O- Well as i thought, the least fancy of the the bottles is my favorite. Not exactly a great beer but certainly the least offensive. But like the others, it goes downhill fast as it warms.

Poured from a brown 11 oz. bottle. Has a very pale yellow color with virtually no head. Smell is of malts, somewhat sweet. Taste is crisp, rather mild, finishing slightly bitter. Definatly lacking in the flavor department. Feels light in the mouth and has good drinkability. Overall there is nothing special about this beer.

A: Very pale brassy-barley color, extremely neat clarity, with a steady rise of medium-dense micro-bubbles. The head is frothy, chalk white, fair rate of retention that lapses to a skim coating. Decent visual of lacing, small band fully encompassing.

S: The nose was sweet honey, cloying, with fresh buttered bread and a faint fruitiness (semi-dry apple slices).

T: Sweet and grainy flavor, buttered grains, fresh bread, small flower hops with a pinch of fruitiness. Buttered croissant. Overall perception was sweet, lightly grainy, and fruity with a small touch of grassy flowery hops on the punch out. Hops are refrained, but somewhat noticeable.

M: Light bodied, slick texture, and a soft carbonation despite the strong visual. Soft and laid back attitude on the tongue.

O: Did little to offend, fair rate of drinkability, and fairly clean. A quiet, a laid back type of drink, with a decent enough smoothness. Fairs ok per style.

Pours gold with a small head.
Nose shows hay, sweet light bready malt and minty notes.
Flavours include more light sweet malt, bready notes and hay. They finish is quite cloying, there's pretty much no bitterness.
More carbonation would probably help with that too.
