Poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking muddy brown color with a small head of white foaminess. This head fell off nicely to leave some messy sliding lace.
The aroma had some roasted nuts, dark toast, cocoa powder (but a bit more sweeter than what I normally notice) and some caramel/toffee malts.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet end. Developing white bread weaves its way into the mix and helps create a super smooth and semi-sweet toasty aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied but sat just a touch under. Pretty good sessionability. Good carbonation. Finishes fairly smooth and roasty, some toast too.
Overall, good brown ale but not so sure if it's more American or English, oh well. But I'd still have again.

On cask at the Barrel House location
Served in British nonic pint glass
Clear light brown in color , thick off white colored head. Excellent bhead retention. Mild caramel malt and mild cocoa aroma. Taste is also mild but flavorful, smooth creamy mouthfeel. Easy drinking .

Poured into a custom shaped glass: color is amber to light brown where the glass is wider; head is light tan with fine to small bubbles, head laces the glass.
Smell is light caramel, touch sweet, light toast and some biscuit notes; subtle earthy hops.
Taste is a balance of fruity malt sweetness and light earthy spicy hops, all very clean and subtle, pleasant flavor and nice for such low abv beer.
Mouthfeel is crisp a little full and some lingering sweetness and bitterness balance on the tongue.
Overall a very good lighter brown ale with well executed flavors and balance.

Trying a Roy Pitz Old Jail Ale (local Chambersburg historical reference) for Valentine's Day. Served on tap in a Roy Pitz pint glass:
Appearance: A brusque copper hue with some light carbonation and a small, white bubbly head that diminishes quickly, leaving decent lacing.
Aroma: A kind of malty, erathy aroma, light but present woody tones.
Taste: I was put off at first, but gradually sensed the kind of buttery, malty smoothness. Not awful.
Mouthfeel: Fairly smooth, though there is a bit of oiliness on the tongue that I don't care for overly much. Acceptable bite on the tongue.
Overall: I think this is a slightly above average brown ale. I liked the buttery smoothness. I wouldn't order it repeatedly but I would drink it again when the occasion arises.
