While I do kind of like the "hidden" nature and nearly dive-bar type of vibe, there is something about the atmosphere that doesn't quite click for me...

The main bar is dark with loud music (it was too loud for how many people were in the place, maybe 10), the back room is a sort of lounge set up, and then out the back door is a beer garden type of set up with lots of picnic tables... I think the back has the most potential, but it was empty on my visit. I will need to check this out on a nice day with friends. Anyway, the atmosphere is not bad, just average. I would have dinged more because of the music except for a song each by Frank Black and the Pixies. Service is OK, but not stellar for a slow night.

The selection here is really top notch and nicely curated with 30 taps and one hand pump, plus a pretty extensive bottle selection. Oh yeah, plus full bar.

Available taps on my visit were: Lucifer, Avec les bons Voeus Saison (Christmas), Stella (for the drag-along crowd), Rugbrod (Bruery), Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse, Requiem (Gentleman Scholar), Fox Barrel Black Currant cider, Craftsman Holiday Spruce, Delerium Tremens, Fullers London Porter, Bellhaven Stout, Old Rasputin, Santa's Little Helper (Port), Hacker Pschorr Marzen, St. Feuillien Cuvee de Noel, PTE, Mikkeller Santa's Little Helper, Coronado 13th Anniversary, Sprcher Scotch Ale, Climax Noel (Eel River), St. Louis Fond Tradition. They were tapped out of: Gouden Carolus Christmas, St. Bernardus Christmas, Speakeasy Holiday, Ryan Sullivan's Imperial Stout, Three Philosophers, Solidarity (Eagle Rock Brewery!!!).

Overall a very good place, but really because of the selection. Otherwise, I feel like it doesn't quite know what it wants to be... a hipster dive bar? A place for beer lovers that can also make an apple martini to satisfy the fickle LA crowd? I don't know, but, I do know that I will be back for sure.

Loved the vibe of the bar, GREAT selection. Pliny was $12 a bottle which was a little steep. The bartenders were HORRRRRRRRRIBLE!!! After spending almost 70 dollars at the bar she said I could only 2 tastes off the draught. They had a Stone "Enjoy After" in their fridge which should not have been chilled till atleast 2015. Over all I will still come to this bar, but could really care less for the service.

Great tap and bottle list almost all the time. Decent dive bar vibe with a spacious outdoor patio. Service and the staff are horrible though. A lot of macho gangster wannabe's work the bar, and random white girls, who likely just moved to LA from the mid-west.

Instead of appreciating the fact that their customers are passionate about the product they're selling, the staff act high and mighty and condescend to the customers. None of them seem to know or care about beer.

Basically, Verdugo Bar gets good shit on tap... but with so many other choices in the area that have better service and attitude... Eagle Rock Brewery/Public House, Hermosillo/Highland Park Brewery, Glendale Tap, etc... it's better to avoid this place unless they have an exclusive special event going, like BCBS or PtY.
