Black IPAs are all weird, this one was not debittered but it was CTZ + cascade and i saw it coming from a mile away. It's a roasty porterish beer this a transparent hop profile. This beer is also bittered with magnum but the flavor did not coming through. It's black with nearly no head or lacing. Aroma is strongly earthy with a fruity bite to it. Smells good.

Beer is hoppy in the midpalate and bitter from the roast and the Magnum / CTZ additions. It's OK, nothing special but it is drinkable.

On tap at The Brickskeller on December 9, 2010.

Pours near black with a low tan head and a collar with a bunch of big bubbles floating around. The nose brings some pine and citrus notes along with some light roast. Everything blends together quite well and fits the style without just being an IPA that happens to be black.

The taste is quite a bit lighter, though the 85 IBUs can be felt along with some nice resiny hops and a bit of roast. The mouthfeel is medium with a nice dry finish. This was a pretty solid brew and from the way it was talked about on stage, I assume this will be brewed again.
