Nice selection of German beers. Service at the bar is on the slow side and can be unfriendly if you are not recognized as a regular. Pretty good German food.

I visited this restaurant/bar/community center for the first time a few days ago since it's about 15 minutes away from home. Given it's history, the identity of the place is a little bit confusing since it is a bar (up front upon walking in), a restaurant (to the left of the bar in a separate dining room) and a community center type of deal with German heritage (a big dining hall in the back and a biergarten outside on weekends in the summer)...nevertheless it's all about the bier.
The restaurant boasts a nice beer menu with needless to say only German beers. There's a good 2-3 Hofbrau brews on tap (I had a Dunkel) along with Hacker-Psorr Oktoberfest and another offering or two along with a good 2-3 different hefeweizen varieties as well. The bottle offerings are limited to about 6-7 of which a good third is occupied by Becks and the usual and a few Warsteiners.
The draughts are served in half liter mugs or half liter hefe glasses if that's what you order. Mine was $5.75 which is very reasonable but I do not know if that's their standard price or what. My particular beer wasn't very cold which was a little bit disappointing and hopefully an isolated incident. I noticed that the people who ordered hefes at tables around me all had a lemon wedge in them, so I suggest being clear about not wanting one when ordering!
As for the food I went on one of their all you can eat buffet nights. The selection for this is limited to a long table with the different foods but the ambiance is very nice and the food is served to you. While the variety of foods wasn't anything to write home about, the fact that every week they have this buffet the selections change is quite nice and something to look forward to. I noticed someone ordered from their actual menu, but I'm not quite sure on what days they are open so you'd have to check out their website or call for more information.
