Nice place in a nice part of the city. Fortunately not a pretentious place and not over crowed. Selection was deep and varied. Bartender was knowledgeable and the taps were very clean. Hit this place up for a classy low lit beer.

Overpriced, and overrated. Where the tourists and over-the-top hipsters go.

Hit Memphis a few times a year with one of my favorites being Boxing Day. Always have a great selection of beer combined with great service. And the food is outstanding, always exceeds expectations.
The best though is the vibe, just feels like it belongs in the neighborhood!

I'll be honest, I checked this place out about 5 years ago after seeing the smoked coconut club sandwich on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. And I have been back multiple times since.
Always a solid draft and bottle list, the menu is very creative and unique, and always super tasty. I haven't explored the outdoor patio, but it always looks like everyone is having a blast.
If you are in Philly and looking for good beer bars, I'd put this in your top 5 places to visit.

Great little bar, a little cramped but good food and an ever changing selection of good and unique brews.

Tucked away in the residential Fishtown area of Philly, Memphis Taproom looks unassuming from the outside. So much so that I went right past it upon arrival. The exterior almost blends right in with the surrounding apartments. Street parking was easy and I had a few minutes to kill before it opened, so I took an enjoyable walk around the neighborhood.
Inside, I was greeted by the bartender who was very social with me and the other people at the bar. The front area where I sat is a nice bar with a single tv behind it. There is a back area with tables, as well as small beer garden area outside that was not open yet. There were about 20 drafts including 2 cask offerings, mostly American craft with some quality imports mixed in, all reasonably priced.
I ordered my first beer, Dieu du Ciel Péché Mortel, and the smoked coconut club sandwich. The beer was served in a wine glass and was better than I remembered. I've had it before, but to enjoy it on tap is a rare experience. My day could not have started off any better. The sandwich came next and was served with a very generous portion of fries. Both were great. When I was finished, I cooled down with a Victory Braumeister Pilsner. I was actually deciding between this and another beer but once the bartender said, "Victory crushes pilsners,"after asking for his recommendation there was no turning back. And he was right. As good or possibly better than Prima Pils, an outstanding pilsner in its ownright.
I only left the bar because I had other places on my itinerary for the day. Honestly, I could have spent all day here making my way through the creative food and well-thought out tap list. The quality and service of both the beer and food combined with the laid back vibe made my visit here an excellent one. Looking forward to returning in the future.
