Like a quarrelsome castaway, this bold and roasty stout hid away in freshly emptied oak barrels for a year and emerged even more brash and brazen. Rich and complex, sweet and warming and with the lingering temper of a whiskey ghost. It’s best sipped. And savored.

Look: This beer pours a rich black with a thin tan/orange head. The beer was visually very appealing and was served in a brandy snifter
Smell: This has a rich bourbon smell, with sweet undertones perhaps of chocolate. Very enticing smell.
Taste: So extremely disappointing compared to how it looked and smelled. I was expecting a rich smooth flavor considering this was supposedly bourbon barrel aged. I was hoping for something rich and delicious like CW 16, 17 or even something like a good founders BS... shockingly thin and bland, no rich smooth sweetness with little hint of bourbon. All I could think was this is a bland not very interesting brew.
Feel: No body, watery and thin. Opposite of stout.
Overall: I personally love this style of beer and find Potosi phoned this one in. I simply cannot recommend this to other beer aficionados, there are so many more fulfilling and easily accessible craft beers in this genre.

Been sitting on this one for about a year. 90% sure it is a 2018 bottle.
Pours very dark red with a small amount of fizz. Not nearly as thick or gluggy as most other BA stouts, but still nice.
Aroma is medium-thick molasses and chocolate with a bit of whiskey vanilla. It's fairly standard fare for a contemporary RIS, but it's well done.
Tastes quite good. Lively but not overwhelming, smooth from start to finish. Starts out bready lightly sweet, moves into a middle of dark chocolate, red wine, raisins, and sweet pecans. The finish is very smooth and only lightly boozy and it does an excellent job of evening out the fruit nodes.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2016 vintage. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, whiskey barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, roast, char bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, dark/brown bread/crust, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, whiskey barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet, and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and whiskey/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mildly increasing warmth of 10.5%, with zero lingering barrel booziness after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding barrel aged imperial stout. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, whiskey barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish. Fantastic soft/silky feel. A touch thin for the ABV, but the silkiness made up for it. Amazing balance of rich malts, and whiskey barrel presence/integration. Solid earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Not overly sweet from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example. Age probably improved this one looking at the other reviews.

Definitely a beer that is defined by its barrel character. The whiskey is the lead in both smell and taste, the wood molds the feel as well. Feel is a little thin with whiskey bomb finish. Besides whiskey and barrel, taste features roasted malt, molasses, figs, toffee, and barley. Smell is whiskey, charred wood and dates. Solid stout

Bottled in 2017, pours a very dark brown wish a small khaki head that quickly fades to a ring, no noticeable lacing.
Opening the bottle you get an immediate whiff of whiskey but not over powering. Nose gets some dark fruit, toffee a bit of roasted malts, maybe some coffee. Flavor follows the aroma, with a little sweeter finish than I'd like. It's a bit thin for the style, other than than it's a solid BA stout. The label says "Whiskey Barrel Aged".

22oz bottle, no date, 2017 version. Pours transparent reddish brown with a medium sized khaki head. Smells of dark fruit, vanilla, caramel, and oak; lower intensity. The taste follows with caramel, dark fruit, vanilla, roasted malt, oak/barrel, and nuts. Mild bitterness, sweetness, and lingering dryness. Below average body and average carbonation for the style. Overall, the barrel flavors are muted and the base beer seems off. It has too much caramel, nut, and dark fruit instead of roasted malt and cocoa. $19.43 for a bottle.

People may scoff at this review, but I am being genuine and understand that this is a Potosi beer.
Poured 22oz bottle into chalice. Color is obsidian black with a thin 1 finger tan hear. Quick retention and a few spots of lacing. The aroma is sensational with very soft bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, cocoa, marshmallow and thick caramel. The flavor begins with a rich caramel and moves into some chocolate. It evolves with a faint vanilla and bourbon but lacks any oak or wood. Medium body with creamy, smooth feel. Carbonation is spot on. This reminds me of a 2-3 year aged bottle of CW BBS after the bourbon has faded. I found it to be very delicious and wish it could be a bit more affordable. Paid $19 for a bomber.

Taste: Rich malty, wood notes, bourbon, molasses syrupy mouth feel. Oaked bourbon barrel nose, although this version I had was aged in wine barrels for a year.
Black and mostly opaque with small head of refine bubbles.
Full body.
