veltins.com

Style: Kellerbier / Zwickelbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The beer presents itself in a palely amber colour with orange reflections and a mellow soft head. The complex flavour is firstly dominated by caramel with a slight undertone of honey, roasted almonds, and fresh fruity flavours that bring tastes of green apple to mind. Grevensteiner Original appears very crisp and elegant despite its round and malty-sweet body. A smooth toasty character paired with nutty flavours opens a distinctive finale, which unfolds impressions of butterscotch.

Attractive orange gold color with white cap and good lacing.

Aroma of rich caramel malt and something like almond flowers.

Flavor is definitely sweet malt supported by enough hop bite to keep things in perspective. Sweet yet dry, bready, biscuity yet fuller bodied bordering on voluptuous. Complex without being busy, I'm not hearing an angel chorus sing but this flavor combination is something to think about even if I'm not in an analytical mood. Finish is clean with an aftertaste that's slightly nutty and refreshingly bitter.

Medium-full texture with balancing carbonation.

A remarkable beer suited to a wide range of uses.

16.9 oz can poured into a imperial pint glass, the beer is a hazy copper with a thick beige head. It’s a looker.

It has an aroma of grains, a bit of spice and some fruit.

This is a malt driven beer. There is some sweetness with cracker type taste from the malts. There is a bit of red apple and some mild hop bite. There is a bit of metallic bitterness mid-glass.

The mouth is very soft and almost creamy.

Not a bad beer but I would like to see a slightly more assertive taste profile to live up to its killer looks.

Brauerei C. & A. Veltins GmbH & Co. "Grevensteiner Original"
0,5l can

Notes: Pours a hazy amber body beneath a frothy head of off-white. Very good head retention and lacing. Aroma of grainy and caramelish malt. The flavor follows with some light toastiness (just like their Pilsner!), a mild herbal character, a suggestion of nuttiness, and a gentle bitterness. Sweetish grainy malt lingers for some time in the finish along with some grassy and herbal hops. Medium bodied with a dextrinous feel, and a soft and smooth carbonation that leaves it creamy. Quite enjoyable, very easy to drink, and very satiating. Worth trying.

Had this on 2018-03-07 in Lisle, IL at The Bavarian Lodge on-tap

A - Amber brown with a 2-finger white head and mild lace

S - Caramel, light bread and honey

T - Quite sweet. Bread, honey, noble hops. Didn't love it.

M - Light-medium body and carbonation

O - Just OK for my taste. Had this side-by-side with the Hirter Herbstcult, an Austrian Keller Marzen, which I much preferred.

Pours a clear amber with very light chill haze, two fingers of soapy white foam settle to a thin cap leaving a few rings of wispy lace down the glass. Smell: fresh baked bread in the honey / brown area, very mild spiciness and floral hopping. Taste: honey bread, spicy, with a note of mandarin orange in syrup, caramel apple, mineral / almost-medicinal flavor. Medium bodied with a spicy finish. This is certainly one of those beers that embodies "liquid bread". At 5.2% it's a nice alternative to a Pils or Kolsch with as much depth of flavor as the top end of those styles. Best by 30/Aug/2018, possibly canned 06/Feb?.

An absoluetely outstanding and well crafted German beer. Bready, creamy mouthfeel, hop crispness in finish...everything you want in a full bodied sessionable beer. Alot of flavor packed into a 5.2% brew. Will look for this one again.

Bonus points for this beer being $7.99 for 16oz 4 pack cans. Alot better than the $16-$20 4 packs of NEIPAs these days.

A: Poured into a tulip to a deep hazy amber topped by a denese two finger cream colored head which retains well and leaves some lacing
S: Smells of sourdough bread and a little yeasty with a slight caramel along with some noble hop aroma on the nose
T: Taste is malty and doughy with some yeasty flavors. Slight caramel and a little noble hop bitterness along with some chewable multivitamin qualities. Swallow is more vitamin notes, noble hop bitterness, more doughy bread and a hint of caramel
M: This beer has a moderate amount of heft on the balate wit ha slightly slick and creamy feel. Carbonation is adequate and just under prickly while the beer has a fairly refreshing finish that is not very crisp on the palate.
O: Overall this is an interesting beer. Fairly smooth and mellow on the palate while still having some nice flavors with a little complexity. Seems to rep the style well and is worth a try.

What a surprise! This brew comes from one of the biggest German breweries. Did not expect such a mellow, nice Kellerbier style beer. It’s far better than the soapy stuff other industrial breweries sell as Kellerbier. Malty but crisp with nice apple notes. Very good!

Malty and rich, leathery and tangy. Dark amber brew, looks to be clear in the pint shaker. Woody, husky, and straw aroma. Quite spritzy, with even some club soda taste. Some malty sweetness.

Very wheaty and grainy tasting. Corn and a touch of caramel. Not really any bitterness. Not my favorite Kellerbier but I always like to try them. On tap at Public House in La Jolla.
