Bootleggers Golden Chaos Golden Ale 8.5% abv

A: It looks similar to a Duvel with the same straw colored, light orange finish with a ton of carbonation. As a sidenote, Bootleggers has always disappointed with corked and caged bottles. The corks are too big, they explode and break, just disappointing all over, much like every Maroon 5 album.

S: there's some sweetness, cooked corn, a buttered biscuit finish smell

T: A great initial sweetness with a slight tartness, almost brettanomyces in character, a mild dryness the hops are light in character like chinook hops with a type of nutmeggy finish. Pretty interesting and welldone.

M: The mouthfeel delivers a ton of small bubbles with carbonation throughout that has almost no coating but is filling on gassy hoppy notes. You cannot drink this beer quickly but it is not wanting as a result. It is just a boistrous bubbly midwestern girl who will let you know the applicability of its dance degree, whether you would like to hear about it or not.

D: This has two sides, action and romcom. On one side theres a great sweetness and hoppiness like a kind of second rate Lechoueff, but on another side there's this quick finish that leaves it relatively limited in scope. It has that sort of expansive scope of a Kafka project but ultimately becomes one note in its brevity.

Narrative: "Most people think that the Brita water cleans the water but it actually adds sodium sulfates to the hyd-" Your mind begins to wander and you look at Keith in disbelief that he would talk about water purification for 4 miles of this 12 mile hike. "Yeah I get it, brita, bottled water, so did you see Celebrity Apprentice last week?" "What? no no man you're missing it, man you are just focusing on the end product if you-" Well now you went and did it, another rant, another incline, you went and taunted the complex mind and now you must deal with his single note expression. It is like a genius with an extremely limited scope, and your hydrolysis knowledge is exponentially grown. he begins to grow on you, his affectations and the glint of his eyes when he explains the separation of nitrate sulfides, you are listening, if only superficially.

Taste - Hops play in a citrusy sweet way, but its very smooth. I get notes of apricot among the hops...and the rest just tastes like a really good golden Belgian ale.

Overall - I really like this one. This is a great spring/summer beer, its very refreshing and easy drinking. I think bootleggers has a trend of making beers with high alcoholic content, but keeping them very smooth and easy drinks...

first extra from my first trade, thanks ncmussell.

Pours a light amber color with an extremely fizzy, soda like, head that recedes quickly. The aroma starts out with a strong lemony smell, followed by some belgian yeast spiciness. In the background there is a fair amount of biscuity/old bread smell. The taste is more of the same but the thin body sort of washes out the taste for me. Overall it was an interesting beer and had some interesting belgian smells going on in the nose but the body just didn't properly support the beer.

Poured from a corked 750ml bottle. A nice pop when the cork is released with some smoke coming out of the bottle. The head is fluffy and white but makes its exit rather quickly leaving a peaceful golden color behind. The aroma has the presence of candied sugar, plum, apricots and pears with a mirroring flavor profile. The hops are crossed up in the sweetness but are noticable on the spicy side. The sugar hangs on the palette with the heat from the alcohol then fades to the back and finishes on the dry side. The fruity sweetness and subtle hop bitterness blend well for a good beer.

Like Xmas in my mouth. At first sip, Golden Chaos introduces itself with the classic Belgian smoothness/sweetness and seamlessly transitions to a mellow sour tartness - your finishing note. As a lover of sour lambics, it's my favorite characteristic of this beer.

Once poured, Golden Chaos exhibits lovely yellow tones, strong carbonation and long-lasting lacing on the side of the glass. I've been drinking this one quite a bit over the summer.

BTW, this beer should come with a pair of pliers. The cork is oversized and difficult to pry off by hand.

As a guy that prefers IPA's and Stouts, I've been a little slow to appreciate Belgian Ales, finding them too fizzy, and too sweet. That said, I like this beer. It pours a crisp golden hue and is filled with the expected bubbles with a mild head and no real lacing. The scent is understated, barely discernible to my nose. It leaves a refreshing bubbly clean feel in one's mouth almost like a mouthwash along with the alcohol backdrop. But taste is what we appreciate, right? And the taste of this is very pleasing to my palate. It has sort of an apple/pear taste followed by a clean dry finish, and the 8.5 ABV content is recognizable. I'm slowly coming around to the Belgian's, and this baby is helping to lead me there.
