On-tap at Hollingshead's,

A: Pours a golden orange with a fizzy average white head.

S: Cracked wheat and complex funk/lactic acid.

T: This is lemon and lactic city. Just delicious. Big acid (mostly lactic with a bit of acetic), full flavours, I'm quite impressed.

M: High acid, dry, smooth overall body.

D: This blew me away, I knew Bootlegger's were doing some lambic type brews, but I didn't know they'd be this good. This is an acid hound's dream, big acidity without going overboard and being rough. This effort for me is clearly on par with Cantillon and one of the best American sours I've ever had.

12 ounce hand bottle. Pours a golden color with a white head. The aroma is tart citrus with some funk. The flavor is more tart citrus, mainly lemons. Tart aftertaste with some light funk. The beer is very dry. Low to medium carbonation and thin mouthfeel.

On-tap at Bootlegger's

A: The pour is a clear burnt orange color with essentially no head and very little (if any) carbonation.

S: The nose provides a nice lactic tartness and a musty funk which I almost always find enjoyable. There is a slight fruit (grapes) component to the nose, which likely comes from the wine barrel.

T: Unfortunately, the fruitiness doesn't quite translate to the palate here. The acidity is still there, both lactic and even a mild acetic quality provide some tartness, but nothing overwhelming. There is a mild funk and some notes of oak as well.

M: The pour is very lightly carbonated (though admittedly not the intent), but I think it works well and makes the beer more "traditional". As a result, a nice slick feel on the tongue.

D: The acidity is moderate enough to make this easy to drink. I found this to be really pleasant and I look forward to all the other sour/barrel aged offerings Bootlegger's has.
