Womencantsail sent this one. Thanks, Andrew.

Golden-amber with two fingers of rocky foam.

Aroma: Awesome. Forward hop notes reminiscent of tropical citrus fruit (primarily pineapple) and spicy rye. Some floral and earthy scents appear as it warms.

Taste/mouthfeel: Equally great on the palate. Heavy on the earthy rye and tropical/citrus hop flavors. Flavors of pineapple and earthy, bready rye work together quite well. The mouthfeel is bone dry and light on the tongue, though bitterness is ample, fairly resiny. Some lingering tropical fruit flavors add a nice complexity to the finish. Great beer.

On-tap at Bootlegger's

A: The pour is a light golden-orange color with a big white head and some light lacing.

S: A really great hop aroma with lots of orange and grapefruit rind. Grapefruit and lemon fruitiness and a bit of resinous pine. No malt whatsoever to speak of.

T: Quite bitter and super dry, just like a good IPA should be. Grapefruit flesh and peel as well as lemon, oranges, and tangerines. Straight forward and delicious.

M: The body is medium with a moderate to high carbonation with a very dry and bitter finish.

D: Super easy to drink and pretty much what I look for in an IPA. I'd have no problem having this again and again.

On-tap at Bootlegger's, confirmed it is named after the famed Fullerton SoCo district,

A: Pours a light amber/orange with a moderate white head, good lace and retention.

S: Lots of sweet citrus/orange & tangerine, some pine. Peach heavy, peachy.

T: Direct full citrus flavour bombards the palate, tangerine and lemon are huge here. Powerful hop flavour.

M: Very crisp biting carbonation. Medium-bodied, slick.

D: A fantastic new IPA from Bootlegger's, a beer that can easily stand on its own in CA. Well worth a try, really one to seek out. Any hophead in Greater Los Angeles should make a trip to try this beer.

A new IPA from Bootlegger's. (Presumably) named after the SoCo district near downtown Fullerton, this IPA features Citra and Cascade hops. From a pint at the source, on to the beer:

More of a paler orange color, the head on top has modest retention and leaves just a little lacing. The nose is promising; it isn't bitter, "sweeter" tropical fruits like tangerine and orange hit the nose with a little rye note.

Like Rustic Rye IPA and Knuckle Sandwich, SoCo doesn't hesitate to showcase the hops. It alos does a really great job at that. Tangerine dominates, slices of other assorted citrus, light pine. The malt base doesn't get in the way, while at the same time this is not like putting a handful of hops into your mouth. A little buzz in the mouth, easy in the mouth without much bitterness, alcohol is hidden...with the agreeable flavor this goes down relatively quick.

After my pint, I got a growler to go. Under my philosophy, that qualifies this beer as being "worth it".

Was really expecting this to be a sleeper and actually win me over more than Knuckle Sandwich. On draft at the brewery it was clear that Knuckle Sandwich was king. Bottle to bottle comparison Knuckle killed SoCo. Given that all formats I had were super fresh, this just did not seem like a great representation of a "West Coast Style IPA".
