quintessential american red. unbelievably strong taste, heavy feel and a soapy finish. best version of a common style.

I almost always love reds, so no surprise that I like this one.
However, the first time I tried it, it was in a glass from the tap. It seemed better to me than this time, drinking it from a bottle. Probably because the flavors got stirred up before and the fact that I had fries.. Definitely recommend with fries!

12 ounce bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled maybe 7/2016, had 6/11/17.
Pours a cloudy reddish orange, with a three inch creamy, lasting head and lots of foamy lacing. Aromas of some citrus and herbal hops, yeast, toffee, a little wheaty. The taste is malt, resiny hops, caramel, grapefruit, a little bready. Fair amount of hop bitterness up front. Smooth, a bit dry, a decent medium body, well carbonated on the high side.
Surprisingly fresh, if itβs as old as I think. Nothing unique. But a good amber/red and enjoyable.

Date suggests 12 oz bottle is late July 2016. Oh boy. Poured into Teku glass.
L: Shockingly, beer is mostly clear red/amber. 2F head, good retention, nice lacing and ring.
S: Roasty malts, some citrus still hanging about, some yeast. Earthy. Not bad for age.
T: Best I can say is it tastes like a nice crisp autumn day. Malts are a bit forward, pretty earthy. Solid, but unspectacular. A little bit of ABV heat at the end.
F: Light bodied, medium carbonation. Balance is OK, construction is close. It's not a crusher with the higher ABV. Probably would be best if that was a few notches down.
O: Decent, if a little boozy red ale.
